Boots scraping - how to avoid?

Post by rtyuiop »

Hi guys,

I realise this is entirely my fault for buying a nice sensible Spewsuki rather than a nice green turbo ZX-10R for my first bike, but anyone got any tips for avoiding scraping boots?

I don't particularly want to take my feet off the pegs... Is the only way to point your feet straight forward? Seems damn uncomfortable and a great way to risk dabbing the back brake at an inopportune time.

Cheers,

Danny

you should only have your toes on the pegs unless your gonna use the brake or gear lever anyway

I should have known here was the place to come for many useful suggestions  .

Thanks Rossi. It might sound obvious, but I didn't think of it for 3 days!

If it doesn't work, I'll just try putting my feet on the bars and shifting by hand, hands being smaller than feet!

you could get adjustable rearsets or just jack up plates these should cost about $100 if store bought ,see your local machine shop with a pic printed they may be able to make them for a cartoon of beer

When I'm pushing through a corner I have the balls of my feet on the pegs. It allows you to shift your body wieght more quickly. When you squat down is it easier to balance on the balls of your feet or your heels? If you have your corner entry sorted any shifting and or braking has been done before you drop in, so you don't need your feet near the shifter or brake.

Danny i would say you are pushing the bike over in corners instead of getting off the bike to maintain ground clearance. It's a newbie habit which is easily fixed before it ends in tears.

Regardless you have No excuses not to come riding with us now mate, you've had your solo fun come out with the gang. Who knows i may even let you give me some pointers.

Not to counter Rossi, as he's been successfully riding heaps harder n faster then I for a lot longer BUT ....... I spent 6 weeks retraining myself to put my feet back down on the pegs (as instructed by Toprider at the B&C course up here) to enable rear brake trailing into & through corners as required.

Colin Edwards at this years PI GP said he's having to learn the technique to match the guys who come up through the gp Ranks to the motogp class.

I'm with Rossi. Balls of the feet should be on the pegs and against the heel plates, unless you are using the rear brake. The gear lever side wont matter because you shouldn't be changing gears mid-corner anyway.
