The 'after' run was at 4:14pm but the temp entered was ~37C and humidity was 7%?!!......

I think I know where your 6 horses came from!!!........
I don't know what the problem is - I trust old mate 100% - he was spannering at the recent WSBK round at PI and runs a couple of local CBR1000's in FX. The guy knows his stuff. The first figure was basically 1.5hp less than what the old PC3 achieved with a lot of work - so for a PC5 with a base map, that is right on the money. He has nothing to gain by bullshitting me about the dyno figures - nothing at all.

He is one of the only mechanics I would actually trust to tell me the honest truth about my bikes - because he has done it in the past several times. Those dyno runs were split by several others, as he mapped the power curve properly.

What sort of dyno do you operate ?

Woah there big fella - don't kill the messenger!

I don't know him or you from a bar of soap, and I'm certainly not making any sweeping statements about your tuner. I have simply commented on the facts as posted. I don't normally operate a dyno, though I am one of those painful engineering types that likes to know how stuff works. I have also spent many hours on dynos including setting up a full stand-alone ECU on my race car (not a piggy-back that just tweaks the stock fuelling & ignition).

> Engines make more power in cool weather because of the higher air density - that's a fact.
> For this reason the dyno software requires you to enter temps etc which then apply factors to take out 'variables' in an attempt to standardise the readings - that's a fact.
> The before-and-after temperatures and humidity on your graph vary significantly, seemingly more than is likely over about an hour - that's a fac... Wait you don't live in Melbourne do you?! (-8

It is clear to me that the factors are playing some part in the graphs. You may elect to ask him about this, or not - I don't care. As long as you are happy with how the bike goes - that's all that matters.

I wasn't shooting the messenger - but it was pretty clear from your post that you think old mate has just bullshitted to me about the power increase, simply by changing the parameters to achieve a 6hp increase ?

I'll ask old mate and see what he says. His dyno room is quite small and closed off from the rest of the workshop, it is also not air-conditioned - so the rise in temp over the period of tuning seems legitimate to me. The drop in humidity ? will see what he says.

I know what the 12 felt like to ride with the standard ECU settings after the PC3 failed - it was a dog. Ran really poorly, used a shitload more fuel than normal - but it did get me home from Victoria. It has a lot of mods that were mapped in to the old PC3 and the previous dyno chart showed really similiar curves but only 155hp peak - here is the old dyno chart from several years ago....

I still have not yet had a chance to really give the 12 a good shakedown run since the mapping was completed. Been commuting only. One good result is the fuel economy below 4k. Old mate said he had tuned for economy up to 4k - and for power over 4k. The response seems to confirm this - I am getting around 6.5 l/100km on the daily commute now - rarely going over 4k - which is a lot better than it used to be.

aah well the seat of the pants dyno says to me the bike is making great horsepower :kuda: :kuda:  Finally got a chance to test the new set-up in a decent ride down into the Snowy Mountains on the weekend just gone.......mmmm is there anything better than hitting the Snowy Mountains for a weekend of stropping ?? pretty much not ;)

Thanks heaps to the Canberra Riders crew for a great weekend - home-base being Jindabyne. Had a solid day in the saddle on Saturday with 660km being covered on some of the best riding roads in the country - for the KSRC crew, this was like a CDT in reverse

Good group yesterday of 10 riders, no tards and all with good pace. Thanks to Grandpa mStevo for leading the pack, a fine job you did mate. Sunday's ride was just the 3 of us, dropping from the snowline to the coast in a couple of hours......very nice. A lazy 540km on Sunday, so a good 1200km covered in 2 days. And I didn't even take the Airhawk !

Thanks to all who helped make this a really enjoyable weekend - MickLC was in the bunk underneath me and scored the mother of all bourbon bubblers in the early hours of Sunday morning......a good 5-6 seconds of bliss with obligatory key-change at the end

Here are a couple of short videos of the Barge chasing some of the crew - first vid is heading south and the 2nd vid is heading north chasing the fast pack. As per normal I managed to totally fuck a couple of corners but kept the pack in sight for nearly the whole run heading north. Was a great ride over both days - the Barge feels really good, the Roadsmarts were looking very 2nd-hand yesterday arvo when I got home - fuck me its good to be back on a bike that makes good horsepower

Jump onto the local forum mate - http://canberrariders.org.au/index.php - and keep an eye out ;) .....

They do a few runs a year up to the Snowies - the organisation of the rides is really good.

mate I thought about you when we were honking down the road between Tumba and Jingellic. Knowing this whole area is your backyard ;) - next time we are heading down that way, I will let you know and we can hook up for a strop over Granya :kuda:

good question ;) - they were removed from the original TB back in 2006 I think ? I never looked at the replacement set, it was only fitted up the night before the CDT back in 2012 ? I should check it out - the secondary flies are probably still fitted - that might be contributing to the great fuel economy <4k
