cheers mate, yes the pub has certainly come along pretty well. It will be even better when the piano makes its way down there
tucked your 6 away last night up in the top sheds. Once I get back from CDT, the whispering will commence.....

Let the whispering ......COMMENCE !!

Yes at 0900 this morning, the mighty 6R was wheeled - complaining all the way due to the condition of the wheel bearings
- down into the 4th for some whisperin'.........
First impressions ?
A good battery first - and no probs, dash lights on. Quick jab of the starter - a couple of false alarms from the starter solenoid, then the old girl cranked over a few times......just to check that everything was still rotating OK in the motor.
Dropped the oil. It was pink. Not just any pink either, a bright farken crimson !! Bizarre. Looks black in the oil-pan - but I have never seen oil this colour before......anyway have some fresh Motul in the cases now.
Carbies.....hmmm. No throttle movement at all - well maybe 5mm ? But something not right. All the slides are moving OK, but the butterfly's appear to be locked up. Plenty of Lanoline spray - and some adjustment at the handlebar end - and the butterflies are now working just fine.
Have yet to check the plugs or put water in the radiator (looks bone dry) - but with a bit of luck - I reckon the 6 will be up and running tomorrow......
Stay tuned

Re: It has been done........delivered a package to the whisp
well there you go........fresh juice (just fed into the carbies from a funnel on the fuel hose - no fuel pump ??)......water in the radiator.....sorted out the choke so it was working good......and a really thorough clean-up of all the carbs. Main jets and pilot jets were all blocked solid. The emulsion tubes also needed all the 'varnish' taken off them and the pin-holes all cleaned up. They were pretty much all varnished in old fuel residue. Needles & seats all checked out OK. I actually replaced 3 of the 4 pilot jets with pilot jets from the Keihin box......and also replaced a couple of the float bowl screws which had gone a bit cheesy......
all up the carbs cleaned up really well. A lot of carbie cleaner, some 10A fuse wire and the air duster sort out carbs pretty quickly
(but I am definitely going to invest in an ultrasonic cleaner now.......just perfect for jobs like this.)
and then after a few cranks - she fired up straight away
In further good news Rich - absolutely not a single puff of any smoke whatsoever from the engine. Nothing. I was expecting a bit of valve-stem seal leakage but it looks like they are still sealing well.
Gave it a minute on choke - then a couple of good revs - engine sounds good, a bit of noise out of the top-end, I think the valve clearances may be the next job.
Have to get the fuel pump from Swabio now and sort it out properly, then some decent rubber - a good detail and the little 6 will be ready for some track action pretty much straight away
Happy days ......

Re: It has been done........delivered a package to the whisp
went for a bit of a dig through the library this morning, to find some history about this bike.......
It is meant to be the sister bike to MickLC's ZX6R - Mick's being raced by Troy Bayliss and this one by Kev Curtain. I found some pics from the 1996 season - which Kev won on the Team Bridgestone/Cosway ZX6R. It was bright red back then, #92.
This bike does have a WP rear shock - same as Mick's. Not sure at all about whether the same fork mods were done to this bike as they have been to Mick's 6 ? But obviously all new bodywork has been fitted since the '96 season
.
I am pretty sure Swabio still has a lot of the spares which came with this bike.......time to do some more digging

Re: It has been done........delivered a package to the whisp
no probs mate will have a look through the 1995 season articles in AMCN and TW. I found a few shots of Kev's bike - but they just look like a red ZX6R
nothing like the bike does today....
I also had another good read of Marty's original article, when he picked up both of these bikes back in 2004 or 2005.......the words 'blown motor' appear with frightening regularity
