Not good news.
I Don't know too much about nerves, but I was told that some nerves may rebuild themselves. Will that nerve reattach itself?
If the pains gets too much will he go into shock? cant they manage it with local anesthetic?
I dont think so although Im no Neurosurgeon. Not sure how they manage the pain but apparently stuff like Morphine etc doesnt work. I thik they can do something surgically to try and get some level of function or sensation back.
Here's hoping. It will be a long road. Like I got told they are amazingly skilled people, he is in the best place he can be at this time.

Poor bugger, that sounds nasty. I hope they can do something so that he can get a reasonable sort of recovery.

Geez that's terrible. Married/family Glen?

Just goes to show what we're putting on the line every time we put the helmet on.

Yep, married, couple of young kids. Apparently he was concious enough to have a brief conversation on the weekend but that was about it.

That's pretty extensive trauma, my sympathies goes out to him; tears/detachement that involve the brachial (C5-T1) or sacral (L4-S5) plexus/trunk are difficult to treat & usually not managed very well.

If he is sydney, he would benefit from a secondary opinion from a neurovascular surgeon & pain clinic review from a major trauma centre. RNSH has the best pain clinic in Australia, waiting lists are long however they do prioritize for urgent cases.
Thanks mate I'll pass that on. I think RNSH is where its all happening once he's stabilised at Westmead

I sincerly wish him the best of luck. I have spent years riding the mountains and had many near misses with trees and rocks. I have been witness to some shocking dirtbike accidents from a guy impaling himself on a tree, to a severed leg, and always counted my blessings that it did not happen to me, especially now I have a child and a great wife.

All the best with his future Glen. I hope he finds the solution and regains some normality.

He was up walking around yesterday and trying to do whatever he can. Apparenty C5 and L? Are reasonably OK so he can rotate his arm etc. Its C7 thats severed which is apparently the one that does most of the work. It depends on where its severed which will determine how fixable it is apparently. Once they can get a reasonable level of pain management he can apparently go home and then wait to see what can get sorted at RNSH.
