ZXR750 L1 Stalls and wont start

Post by plasticine »

Hi there

DILEMMA

Oh my old name on here was Paulie but forgot my password and stuff so I redid it -)

So, my L1 sings along perfectly but SOMETIMES when I stop at traffic lights or whatever and come off the throttle she dies, then when I try to start it again it either tries to turn over but the battery is drained and wont kick over or else it wont even try to start.

If I jump start it it fires up fine but then when I ride it a bit and then come off the throttle it stalls out again.

Any ideas?

The fuel pump was replaced a while ago, all new spark plugs etc new battery aswell... so I'm at a loss... and its quite embarassing when you stall at lights in front of all the people you have just overtaken lol

Thanks :kuda:

Hi mate, sounds like either an earthing problem or something simple like a pinched fuel line. I had a similar problem when I did a service on my ZXR750 L3, when I put the tank back on the fuel hose was in the way and the fuel tank pinched the hose, reducing the fuel flow. After a few minutes, there was enough fuel going through and she would fire up again. Otherwise I would check for any exposed/bare wires touching the frame/metal - it could be earthing out. As for your battery sounding drained - well, it is a sure sign it is on the way out - spend the $$ and get a heavy duty one. Bottom line - check fuel lines to see if they are piched or cracked & check wiring. I'd guess it's the fuel line or fuel tap. Good luck - Darius :kuda:

Hey thanks for the reply Darius,

The battery is heavy duty and is only about 2-3 months old..... I was thinking is was the alternator cause the battery was sounding drained after Id been riding for a solid half hour.. but I know nothing
