Help please, bike not revving past 10k

If its starving for fuel it will very soom burn a hole in a piston if you keep trying to get it to rev. More than likley in a limp mode but.

Yeah Ive been on limp mode all Snowy ride……………some of the best roads found in the state, and im there short shifting at 8-9k and only using 4-6th gears. Even doing that vid made me cringe, and rolled on to 10k very slowly ……………

When did this start happening, and what occurred in the days prior,

Aftermarket exhaust doesn't make the FI light cone on. Otherwise we'd all be riding with red lights on.
Aftermarket exhausts negate the use of the exhaust servo on your bike. Not saying this Is the issue, but if the FI light is on all the time, how do you know If something else has gone wrong?

I got it like that from Cath with the FI on and the bike has been running perfectly since I bought it. First day I got her (the bike), I opened her up and she sang beautifully at 9k and upwards ….

I only noticed this revving stuff last weekend, after finally opening her up…………….I usually don’t look at the rev but just listen to the bike when shifting. The only major thing I did recently was the CCT and the oil change………….im pretty sure that the CCT is good but ill drain the oil tonight.

The air box sensor plugs into the back of the box.

If that is the case check that you servo motor is working. It should spin and whine when you turn your key on. I have another fuel pump spare if you want to try that.

Oh, ill check that then, it doesn’t seem too hard to get to if its only at the back of the box………….yeah I think the servo motor works, I hear that spinning and whining at start-up all the time……………I didn’t know what that was, I thought it was the fuel pump lol.

I know it's probably been fine up till now, but if you get a servo buddy you will clear the light if that's the problem.

Does it accelerate normally untill I hits 10k? Or is it sluggish the whole way?

You need to read the fault codes.
I reckon you've missed something while putting everything back together after the cam chain job.

You can bring up the FI fault codes by turning the ignition on and then holding the button that cycles your odometer for 2 seconds and the dash should change and give you er followed by a number.

The service manual has the codes. If you have the Exhaust Valve disconnected you may need to make that fault go before you see any underling issue's (servo elimantor or track down a original Servo).

I think Error 63 is for the Exhaust servo

Also google reveals either the secondary butterfly are not opening (I assume a Zx10 or ZX6 from the video) r the tip over switch is coming into play.

Don't quote me on that but I think that method only works on 09+ models... before that you had to count the flashes.

Spot on EDU my bad the service manual for a Gen 1 Zx10 has blinking codes so going off the dash in the video it would be a flashing combo you count as per the manual

Says you need to ground a wire under the seat and count the FI flashes on the dash etc.

I'd be backing something silly like a sensor etc as the guys have suggested. You mentioned overfilling the oil? How much are you talking? A bit won't matter but if it's a lot you need to sort it.

Start with the stupid stuff. I spent a couple of months and about $1000 getting a miss out of the ZRX and it was a loose connection into the CDI

The light doesnt bother me .

Yeah it accelerates normally until it hits 10k, after that it just bounces off at 10k and wont accelerate any more.

We could have missed something at the cam chain job..............everyones been telling me to look at the fault code (I agree), but ive got no ideas how to do this..............I know with my previous Yamaha XVS650 you can tell the fault by looking at how many and the duration of the flash when you turn on the bike. Is it the same with Kawa's?

I dont mind the bike being flogged so long as its maintained. Im a firm believer of a bike needs to be ridden as its intended, in the case of sportsbikes, it needs to be ridden hard, stretch its legs out a little .............My previous 2 smoker hated being ridden sedately . Anyway when I got it it was running very well and gave a huge grin . Its getting long in the tooth though and these things happen.

Nah it wasnt the oil and fuel filter afterall............I did the changes and it still cant rev high. Im getting around 11k/12k now though which is a good thing.

Basically the bike is cutting out as the ecu thinks that the exhaust valve is closed so won't let the motor totally rev out. You have either a dead unit or circuit breakdown somewhere. I bet it is the first.

Take the seat off and watch the 2 spindles spin. If they don't its dead. (Note the whine you could have been hearing in my previous post might have been the fuel pump priming).

I would get a servo buddy as the servos are prone to dying eventually which sounds like it has done. A bonus will be that it turns off the FI light for ya.

Yeah most likely it was the fuel pump whine, since the sounds is coming from the tank area and not the seat area….

So Blurr, to solve my problem is simply putting in the servo buddy? I didn’t think that would be an issue since I don’t have the OEM exhaust and don’t think mine has an exhaust valve…..But you might be right, I noticed late last night while revving the bike in neutral on the stand (and annoying my very understanding elderly neighbours ) that the FI light sometimes blinks off and on at high RPM……..so something is definitely playing up in that area.

That actually looks better since everything is nicely sealed and held together in epoxy, so no falling apart at high rpm………………I don’t trust my ability with the soldering iron though, ive learnt through many burnt fingers that me and hot pointy objects just don’t mix hehehe.

Ill called shops today if they sell “servo buddy” for a 2006 zx6r 636 in the Blacktown/Parramatta area, so far no luck .....the usual culprit of BikeBiz and Action dont stock them and suggested an O2 eliminator. I just want the bike fixed ASAP and rider her again without worrying that shes gonna explode …...

On a side note, ive learnt heaps from this…………..taking off the tank, taking off the fuel pump and filter, checking for codes, and doing some more basic maintenance. The positives of learning new stuff IMO outweighs my Snowy Ride fun being ruined .

The servo can die, an throw an error.
You normally have to get a servo buddy from eBay.
2 minute job to plug in.
