Repco Tools - Any Good?

I have a repco spanner and socket kit... Don't get used heaps but
I'm kinda ham fisted and they're still looking good

Sidcrome shit?? Really? That sucks, all my sidcrome tools are about 20 years old (my dads) have made in Australia on them and are fucking awsome!!!
Apart from a few new sidcrome tools and they still live up to the test.

Just like anything, buy the best you can afford and look after them. Buy the cheap shit for floogin the crap out of and modifying them hehe.

I still have a few Sids from when I was a teenager...they're called sids because the chrome fell off...
Still going strong...

One of my best shifters is a Toyota...got it in my 1969 Corolla tool kit...

Just had a better look at some of my tools, I have a few jbs tools and they have held up well also.
All my new sidcrome tools are looking good and going strong, I'm interested to how/why they turned to shit?
Does anyone know where there made now?

Oh and agree kincrome are good tools, I think they make supatool??? Have a look on the net kincromes blue and there other brand is red, I think it's supatool, and I'd dare say they'd be cheaper but a decent bit of kit

I suppose like a lot of things now, companies have outsourced their production to cheaper manufacturing countries! What might have been a decent brand 10-20 years ago might be shit now... as my aul man always says and must be true..." They dont make them like they did in my day"..........

I would do all my own work and the bike, i'm by no means a super mechanic but i can maintain a bike no worries! I will take a look at a few brands, and see the best deal i can get!

Wont be going into Super Cheap Auto tho, bought a plug socket in there, lasted about 15 seconds before it broke in half...... utter rubbish it was!

Sales are always good, so I'll keep my eyes peeled!

Funny story about kincrome..

Back when i was a teenager, did a bit of work with the old man out western QLD, he allways used sidcrome, well it was the 70's, not much else around.

Now im talking big stuff, 1 inch drive, he ran cattle trucks and roadtrains and had some dozers, D8, D9s, so big tools. now he used to break sidcrome sockets a bit, hanging off a 1 inch breaker bar with 10 ft pipes ect, but they allways gave him new ones on the spot, cool, no probs, but no good when he was out in the scrub and snapped a socket or two.

Now my old man is a tad racest, as are most bushies, one day a travellin rep turned up with a van full of kincrome tools, and tried to convince him to buy some Yer like that was goin happen!!!! Jap crap he went on about!!! so the rep says, how about i drop off what u need, and u try them, and i will be back in a month or so and see what u think, and he saw how they would be used

Well the old man used and abused them to prove a point.... guess what the old has used since

I bought some Super Crap tools one day to change an alternator on a car. I snapped two ratchet sets trying to undo the bolts.

So I got the shits with it and bought a 60+ piece Kincrome kit and it did it with ease. Lifetime warranty, can't argue with that.

my 2c on this...

from my experiences of building.rebuilding.repairing and re-manufacturing various modes of transport - many bikes, mowers, 4WDs, race cars and dailys
the following is my ratings -
Supatool = supashit, you spends ya money ya gets wot ya pay for shit
OLD Sidchrome (over 15 yo) = a very good spanner and socket but they cannot make a screwdriver to screw themselves with
NEW Sidchrome = just worth the money but the screwdrivers are still shit
STANLEY= good screwdrivers and dont waste your money on anything else they make (except their woodworking stuff- planes chisels etc are good!)
Kincrome = have improved and are today a good tool for the $
Kingcrome = a very cheap copy of Kincrome trading off people poor eyesight in supermarktes
SNAP = ya gotta win Tattslotto but absolutely worth the money ...really for the professional mechanic
Repco = given their guarantee (and they do honour it) a reasonable tool for the $
JBS = also a good tool very unknown but certainly worth a trip to your local Blackwoods
TTS = exxie tools for what they are and the quality is no better than Repco

These days I don't have to buy tools ( I have 4 large tool boxes of just about anything known to man ..even specials to get that circlip out)
but I generally have a mix of old Sidchrome and Kincrome
