Had an unusual experience yesterday on my way home from work, This is not probably one for the police haters.

I took a couple of photos of my bike with the new decals on at work before I started to head home, on the way home I decided to pull over and take a couple more with the nice blue sky and the boats on Corio bay in the background. As I turned off the road to get to the waters edge I noticed a divisional van slowing down, it turned off the road and started heading for me as I was taking the photos the policeman asked if I was selling it. I said no just getting some photos with the new decals on. He got out of the van and asked could he have a look at the bike.

No probs mate I said so he looked her over and commented that it was in good nic.
After a bit of banter back and forth he said he had a super blackbird and loved riding.
He got back in his van and said good to see you have all the right gear on even though it was 38 degrees and off they went.

Not very often the boys in blue just want to look and talk no questions asked

used to get pulled over all the time on my ELR back when, and all they wanted to do was check it out, no grief either.... just bike lovin/ ridin cops wanting to have a look.....

true indeed - once a few years ago on the way to Sydney to a KSRC gig - I was pulled over around 0730 hrs while chuggin along Lake George......on the 12.

Was sitting on around 125-130 odd ks.......and he sat behind me for a good 5 or 6 minutes before I spotted him ! I pulled over, he asked why I didn't slow down when he pulled in behind. I just said I was still waking up and when I took off the helmet he knew I was not pulling his chain - he then said and I quote " I couldn't believe you were going so slow on one of these, I have the '03 model and it gets along pretty well...."

well after a bit more chat - he let me go and told me to keep a better eye out next time - especially at that particular rest-stop without the dunny block because its where they always sit !!!

At least one of the HWP around Goulburn are not too bad when all is said and done.

At the end of the day their job is to try and make the roads safe by punishing us if we break the law so we're not often going to like them

I think both styles of policing have their place and are effective for different people in different situations.

My mate got done for a big speeding offence. The huge verbal bashing the "dickhead?" police gave him when he got done probably saved his life, and whoever else he was going to take with him when his driving eventually caught up with him.

Buuut as we all know booking people for fender eliminators though, that's just stupid

I for one would rather have more police on the road pulling people up than speed cameras. The "dickhead" ones are probably the most affective of the lot at getting some people to drive/ride responsibly. The thought of getting a police man in a bad mood pulling me up and hitting me with the book scares the shit out of me, and actually makes me slow down. Fixed speed cameras not at intersections are a cancer of modern society if you ask me and do sfa to change habits.

A cop being picky about a loud exhaust might have been getting complaints about BLOODY LOUD BIKIES WITH HARLEYS LIVING NEXT DOOR TO YOU RUINING THE PEACE AND WAKING YOUR KIDS UP ALL HOURS OF THE DAY AND NIGHT EVERY DAY and a BLOODY LOUD BACKFIRING KTM with a full system on the other side of your house doing the same. You can't complain when you're mates with them and have a full akra on your sports bike and a straight through stayintune pipe on your 1200

A guy being strict on speeding might have done overtime last night telling parents of teenagers who killed themselves and their mates and some strangers driving like dickheads that their kids won't be coming home. I've got a feeling if I had to do that day-in day-out for a job i'd be a bit jaded about "Hoon" driving/riding also.

You'd do well to NOT have a bad attitude towards the police, because you're the one who will end up suffering because of it.

Give them the respect their job commands WHEN they get you and you'll often find that you'll walk away with less to none of the full punishment for the offence if they think your situation doesn't justify the full punishment. I always give them full respect and manners, and the net result for me has been about $1000 less fines, about 8 points less lost, and one loss of licence LESS for me in my driving/riding history because of kind leaniancy from police

What other profession gives you that? If I contract a plummer he doesn't let me off from paying for the work this time and just write my details in his notebook to charge me next time I contract him

Im allway polite when pulled over, allways start with a how u goin mate... its the aussie thing to say... then judge their response.. that tells me if its going to go well or bad...
But as this thread was/is about good cop stories..

Many years ago back home, was heading home one night, fired up on a freeway on ramp, a bit quick.. well a lot quick. as i merged into the traffic which was quiet heavy, started splitting lanes as we do.
looked in the mirror and saw the red/blue lights come on, crap i said and pinned it for a bit longer, watching in the mirror the cop car swerving from lane to lane trying to get thru the traffic, this went on for a few Ks then i pulled over on the stopping lane, by time said cop arrived i was sitting on the amco, helmet off waiting for him.
He jumps out and comes over and says, why did u stop?? i would never have got u. so i tell him ive been watching him in the mirror's having trouble getting thru the traffic, so i would stop and wait for him..
He thort that was a great joke, had a laugh about cars not moving over for him ect.. quick check and sent me on my was still laughing about how funny he thort it all was... no ticket, no ranting or raving...

Good cop story

On a certain CDT ride a few years ago heading along the Alpine way we all stopped to regroup on the side of the road. Anyways we let the tail end charlie through and told them to keep going and we would catch up ( hoping to make up some time ). Then a sudden realistation that we had to turn right about 10-20kms up the road a couple of us we told to catch this person so they know where to turn off. So we suited up and jumped on the bikes and off we set. A few wheel stands we thrown however some we longer then others and when I put it down, directly in front of me was the rozzers with a hair dryer aimed squarely at me . Anyways the cop chase me down, and we had a chat, ended up getting me for 140kms in an 80 zone and also the wheelie .

As the convo went on I ended up giving him the low down of the results of the races over the weekend.

So after a long lecture The copper grabbed my licence and jumped into his aircond 4wd ( note not a HWP officer) . Several minutes passed and I heard him call my name, so I walked over to barely opened window where he told me ( and I quote ) "slow down and Fark off", to which my response was "yes sir, thanks"

Now I am not sure this matters but in his haste to jump in the car and chase me he threw the radar on the passenger seat. So when I requested to see the reading much to my delight the gun had been wiped, he could not bring up the reading. Now I know he doesn't 'need' the reading but after that he did ask me if I was going to protest to which I answered 'yes'. So maybe it just became more complicated.

Anyways he was a good bloke who told me ' if we need to speed then do it in tight packs so they could not identify the exact bike ' now there's a tip for ya

well i got one but it isn't exactly on the road, nor did it happen to me but it did to my mates brother and i was there to witness it
my mates brother along with his "skateboard buddies" aka punks were skating at a park which tends to attract a a lot of cops only because of the disturbance it causes to the near by houses anyways the cops pulled up hopped out of their car walked over to them and to my surprise asked one of the boys to lend him his board so he could show them "how its done" they ended up doing some tricks and talking in some the skaters language which i didn't understand nor wanted to understand but its good to see not all cops are wankers all though he did politely tell them to keep the music low and the screaming to a minimum i didn't quite get the screaming part their skateboards not harleys but yea i have a few more incidents but they don't come under the good cops
