And the other funny thing as i said to him.. is u guys are the first ones to appeal to the public for help to solve crimes.. mate i said i could solve a very serious crime commited in the frankston area a couple of years ago, one that will go unsolved... so why should i help u, bike riders are the public to,, so dont expect help from me.. maybe a bit silly, but thats what happens..

As much as it pains me to say this - all is not fair in love and war.

He wears the uniform and writes out the tickets. You don't.

If he starts being a prick - and you start back - then prepare for a world of pain. Yes its unfair yes it sucks arse etc etc

But that is how it is. Smile and nod and wave, shut your mouth at all times unless you have to answer a question - and maybe just maybe he might leave things alone.

What I can *guarantee* you - is that at the first sign of a smart mouth - wether you think you are justified is irrelevant - then you can bank on most coppers giving you as much grief as they can. Looks to me - with old mate giving you a ticket for a stock fender  - he was looking for anything he possibly could and then some.

This is advice from someone who has almost 100 traffic offences to his name......so I am coming from an informed position you might say
That's what I was trying to say, but it must not have come across right. I wasn't justifying his actions at all BG and we have all come across one or two (or more) highway patrol on a power trip that we would love to put in their place, but sometimes it's better to bight your lip for your own benefit. As Gos said, it's not fair, but they have the uniform and can make your life more difficult if they choose to.

Highway Patrol do not solve crimes. It's the detectives that do the crime solving and they are the ones asking the public for help to lock real criminals away, so I would ask that you not punish them for the actions of a few idiots that have nothing to do with investigative police work.

Gos I haven't got anything against coppers mate. This bloke had just pissed off too many people and he was told to pull his head in on several occasions. So what did he do he went big noting himself infront of some of those people while he was off duty. Some coppers out there have just got the stick wedged too far up their arse.

Unfortunately for him no it wasn't. Mind you they didn't make to (too?) much of a mess of him. Station was just up the road from the pub when he got a chance he went and hid in there. Couple of on duty guys came got statements from everyone at the pub and within a week he was transferred elsewhere and everyone moved on.

It's like everything in life, we only ever hear about the bad experiences. You get bad service from a shop, you scream it from the rooftops, you get good service, you thank them politely and move on, rarely extolling their virtues.

However, if you are in an industry which is exposed to a lot of negative comments, it is usually as people have had bad experiences. Otherwise, there would be little to comment about, or more the point, little reason to comment. So, if you are a Lawyer, Real Estate agent, Car salesperson or a police officer, you need to accept that there will be negative comments, not take them to heart unless you are part of the problem and provide a logical and balanced point of view.

I for one have several times been critical of police, police tactics and police behaviour. I have also at time acknowledged when I have had a good experience with the police also. If you search my posts you will see both. Do I hate the police ... definately not. Do I believe they are the servants of revenue raisers and media statistical positiveness, then yes I certainly do.

Do I believe there are some fantastic police officers on the job. Hell yeah. One of my best mates is exactly one of those. He is a human being, with common sense. The problem I see, is the manner with which a considerable amount of HWP officers, treat the general public. I would say that even those who are also on the job would agree, apart from them allowing their true beliefs to be made public, that they are for the most complete C---S.

It's not just motorcycle related either. I have been on the receiving end of said officers while in a tin top and not on a bike. They appear to have perhaps the most arrogant, confrontational and aggressive communication methods. It's a real tough guy act for the most part. Now this is not to say that ALL HWP are such people. I have met one or two that are in fact pleasant humans going about there job. But they are these days unfortunately the exception, rather than the rule.

So, if you want to know why threads about this sort of thing turn into "Cop Bashing" then potentially there are logical and valid reasons for it and truth be known, the majority of the Police members on "Normal" duties feel the same way about the HWP as we do, however, due to career constraints and protection of their chosen field, remain cautiously stoic. I don't blame them and I would not want to expose myself to the "bashing" should I be in one of those fields either. But the fact remains, that I also have to often defend what I do at barbeques and functions. It comes with the territory. So, for those on the job who are KSRC members, I encourage you to remain stoic on these conversations as it will end up with comments which will offend you. they may not refer to any behaviour your personally exhibit, but London to a brick, it will represent the behaviour of the majority of those members we are speaking of.

I still do not understand why it is necessary to belittle or intimidate a member of the public for committing a traffic offence, let alone for being pulled over for a random vehicle inspection. It is not the right nor the responsibility of the officer to anything but enforce the law. A magistrate has a right to hand you a dressing down, a police officer has the right to either educate or council, or if required issue an infringement or make an arrest. The verbal intimidation and rudeness is not an entitlement to their position.

I hope that clarifies any misconceptions people have about my attitude to members of the force. There are great ones, just as there are great people. There are fucked up ones, just as there are fucked people. Unfortunately, the ratios appear to be different. ;)

BLACK SPUR AND COPS AGAIN!!!

Post by photomike666 »

My standpoint is similar to Marty's. There are dickheads in every community, and the pisspoor few spoil it for the majority.

It's common belief that all priests touch alter boys, all bikers are law breaking hell raisers, and coppers are bastards. Why, because a segment of each community are and they get publicity for it.

As far as the spur goes, too greater proportion of law breaking motorcycle community gravitate to the area. Unregistered, unroadworthy bikes, unlicensed riders and those who treat the road as a personal race track with no regard for their own or others safety.

The kind of police who are going to get results (in the eyes of the paper pushers), are those who deal with the blatant lawlessness roughly.

Problem is, the not so bad boys get a serve too. How many ADR changes have there been over the years, and how many manufacture interpretations have there been. Irrespective of attitude, someone trying to do their job properly may occasionally send a legitimate bike to be tested.

I got done with a fender eliminator, and I copped it begrudgingly on the chin. Sure I don't understand the law, but I knew the mod was illegal. I guess that makes me a law breaking biker who provokes an attitude in police!

I think that best sums it up and why some of the public feel ostracised and jump on the police bashing wagon. Why do you need to be rude when doing your job? Yes there would be plenty of examples and reasons why one would tear a person a new arsehole, but that should be the exception not the rule. Courtesy is a 2 way street and it doesn't matter your position it is alright to be wrong
