Blame Gerry Harvey. He used to import stuff from overseas and sell it to us at a massive markup. When we found out we could just cut him out and import it ourselves he had a big sook and wanted the rules changed to protect his money tree.
Result; most of us no longer give a fuck for rich whinging business owners. We've been paying through the nose for years and now we don't have to. Do you seriously think we should pay grossly inflated prices at the counter just so the person behind it can have a job? The profits bypass him too, and go straight to the likes of Gerry Harvey.
Pazzo eh? Where in Australia are they made?

Oh, thats right ...

We strongly believe in supporting our domestic markets and proudly declare the levers are Made in Canada.
If my dollar is going overseas shouldn't I send as few as possible?

I am well aware that pazzo's are not made in Australia, pretty much nothing is made here any more, but at least they are made in a place that has a comparable standard of living, environmental laws, and goods specification as us, we could at least try and compete with them, but there is no chance with the chinese.
Any way, you have made your choice, and no doubt will make the same choice with most of your purchases, I think you, and the rest of our society, will regret it in the long run though.

A friend was saying that Gerry Harvey is behind eSOLD and he was on TV a while back talking up his new venture and saying that we had been paying through the nose for stuff so he started e SOLD.

What a hypocrite... yep he's still after our hard earned $ and will do anything to get it.

Back on topic. Ventura racks are crap quality and expensive. Come from NZ too. Can only carry light loads before breaking. My ZZR11, ZRX, and ER6 racks have all broken with moderate loads on them. I only buy them cheapo ebay since paying full price for ZZR1100 one. :?
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

Sadly ive had 3 straight bad experiences attempting to buy stuff locally
1. Exhaust hanger for the bike: Cannot find them in Aus for a 09 zx6r. As a result hanger is now on its way from the UK
2. "Fastest" DVD: Not released in Aus yet. Had to buy from the US.
3. Helmet: Shop 1, wouldn't price match shop 2 on exact same helmet. As a result $700 left shop 1 and went into shop 2 coffers. Still not sure why they wouldnt match the price??

In case you yo-yo'd from shop to shop all day telling them shop whatever would match it and could they do better. Sooner or later someone who hasn't done the research, shopped around, or is just desperate to support the local business - will just pay the asking price. ;)

back off-topic.

+10000million on what Daisy has said above. Aussies have been getting screwed over for years with massive mark-ups on retail goods in every sector, not just motorcycle accessories. The retailers used to have it good before the internet made the world a much smaller marketplace.......they made their own bed now they can lie in it. its no wonder that aussies buy more stuff from overseas now, they are sick to death of paying 4 to 5 times the same price for goods here !!!!

Gerry Harvey is a dork anyway, claiming that ebay is killing his business. Yeh sure, when was the last fridge or lounge suite or fuckin 55" plasma you bought off US ebay and had posted here ??? he sells us the computers in the first place, then whinges when we use them to buy the same shit he sells, at 1/4 the price !! Eat shit and die Gerry.

In each case just a few clothes to go on hols with. When ZZR rack broke I went to steel merchant to replace broken mounting tubing and was told they didn't sell tubing that thin! Bought thicker tube and welded that in. Er6 broke flat section (and it wasn't my rack- on loan!) and welded up again. My replacement rack (had to go back to owner when I left his employment) hasn't broken yet, but I hate the bike so rarely ride it- it only carries a few traffic cones in a gearbag now. ZRX had a few clothes, my laptop and a Rjays topbox bolted to it. Went to Port Douglas and back with it- 4000km or so, and it broke one mounting leg off completely and 80 percent through the other- lucky I didn't lose my WORK laptop somewhere between..... For the money they suck. Gearsack racks were a better proposition I reckon. I am not aware if they are made anymore.

Gearsack racks were by far the better option for dinkum tourers. Sure, they may have been big and ugly, but they were functional and they did not snap like twigs when pushed.

Modified gearsack racks are even better ! if Smithy ever reads this thread, he may recall with horror the custom job I did on a gearsack rack for the first WSB ride back in '06........it was a corker, fitted & worked perfectly......but was less than pretty.

The one we had on the 1100 didn't fare too well, but that was caused by vibrations because the bike was just a bit too rigid.
New shock and Givi rack (well actually its a Hein Gericke) and we can load it up with bullion. :D
