Police allegedly caught hooning

Post by Kermit »

30 Nov, 2011 08:56 AM

THREE South-West police officers are under investigation for allegedly speeding during a police escort on the weekend, with one allegedly caught at more than 45km/h the legal limit.

The three separate incidents occurred on Bussell Highway, Margaret River on Saturday night.

A Sergeant, Senior Constable and First-Class Constable were conducting traffic escort duties in relation to the Cold Chisel concert at Sandalford Estate.

Acting Sergeant Naomi Smith said the escort was being carried out for safety reasons and was sanctioned with consideration to the influx of people to the region for the concert, Leavers Week and the Margaret River fire.

“Three images downloaded from the camera depict the officers speeding during the escort about 3.05pm,” Acting-Sergeant Smith said.

“The vehicles involved include a motorcycle and two vehicles.”

The motorcycle’s alleged speed of more than 45km/h over the posted limit is considered a hoon offence by police prompting a vehicle seizure process.

However according to Acting-Sergeant Smith because the Senior Constable does not own a vehicle an alternative vehicle surrender notice was issued and then cancelled. The motorcycle was also seized and then released.

The South West District Office is investigating the officers’ actions during the escort.

Does this mean if I have Jimmy Barnes as a pillion or escorting him; I can give it a squirt?

No, it means do as we say not as we do!

I'm suprised they're not all dead because the government assures me that speed kills!

what a crock of shit. When our local bike coppers do escorts of visiting dignitaries here - like recently with HM The Queen and Obama US Pres - well they regularly smash the speed limit between points along the route. Its no big deal, they are just doing their job no children or animals were harmed.......and maybe just maybe some bright spark decided to turn the farken cameras off along the route as well ! Who would have thought it ?

those WA coppers are their own worst enemy sometimes !!   FFS if they are doing escort duties then why would they publicise some pissant camera offence ? just beating up on themselves really....

No good Stu........... Coppers are exempt from the mobile phone laws that the rest of us have to abide by. Aparently they have been specialy trained, so the laws don't apply to them

I'd be very interested in hearing what comes about after lodging a formal complain to their head office. Not fair on anyone if we have to abide by those laws and they flout them. I hope he gets his arse kicked!

Hey Stu I broke multiple laws on the road today, I think it's in the interest of the public that you report it to the police and have me thrown in jail. :p

Im with u on that one stu, whats good for the goose is good for the gander!!!!
They are a law unto themselves,
Many years ago in north QLD, i knew of a cop that used to get pissed in the back bar of a pub, on duty, in uniform, than stager out to his cop car, than go finish his rounds.
But there the law, so its ok........
Interesting to see if get a answer, but dont hold ur breath mate!!!!

Well actually they are permitted to talk on a mobile if it is in the course of carrying out their duty. Having said that, if you actually look closely at cop cars on the side of the road, they are often talking on a mobile.
But you are right about their special training. They are such good drivers that in WA they don't even have WRX or v8's after a couple of very ugly fatal acidents on the way to jobs.

But as I've said many times before on here, most cops hate traffic. But as motorcyclist, traffic cops are what we see.
It is far better to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even if chequered with failure, than to take rank with those who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, as they live in grey twilight that knows no victory nor defeat.

I know the link says its South Australian legislation. But once upon a time the Australian Road Rules covered all of Australia.
I know this legislation covers New South Wales at the moment.
