Kevlar bike pants

Post by h.b.bear »

Been doing some reading on Kevlar bike pants and they sound quiet impressive, but what i really need to know is how much protection do you really have with them if you came off.Has anyone here had any experience with them.

Are you talking draggin style jeans? If you are they work, I've tried them! Depends what level of protection you need though. Leather will always be better, however if you are just going to the movies or commuting, the kevlars are good

Kevlar bike pants

Post by Blurr »

I can't help but worry about my knees if I was to wear kevlars. They have no padding, which is the main reason you wear gear. Sure skin abrasion is one issue but bone protection would be the other one.

Don't get me wrong you can't always wear leather everywhere but some good gortex pants are coming out with padding in them plus they have the added benefits of being more breathable than kevlar and have abrasion protection.

I got kevlar jeans with foam inserts that slip in for the knees. If they had something on the hip they'd be perfect. Cheapies, travelling van that came for a local visit.

I've had a pair of draggins for the past 3 years... never dropped the bike to test out if they work or not. They did finally start wearing so thin in the top of thigh and crotch area that they begun to tear apart.

So decision was to either spend about $250-$275 for another pair that will last another 3 years... or as I did, invested in a pair of Dainese Leather pants for $500. They should last a lot longer, in the event of the unfortunate i'll be better protected, and I can now get off my arse and do a track day :)

I have a pair of Motolegion as well, from memory they have pockets on the inside for both hip and knee armour (comes with the jeans).

A fraction of the cost of Draggins too.
