Its no fun getting caught and we complain about no signs and where they hide but what about the fixed roadside speed cameras, how bloody big are those signs warning motorist about the cameras, how much revenue do they rack in,the way i look at it a lot of people must want to get caught or have plenty of money because they rake in hundreds of thousands

On my bike, with it's less than useful speedo placement, it takes ~1.5 sec to look down, read speed, look back up, decide if I'm about to die. I dont use the speedo much. I follow the traffic flow. If the traffic is doing 10 over, and its a safe place to be doing 10 over, then by god am i doing 10 over as well. Accidents are caused by people not looking where they are going or doing something unexpected. Speed is a mitagating factor, not a causative one. Make licences hard enough that 50% of people currently with a licence wouldn't pass. Then they either learn or catch the train. That is gonna be the one and only way to reduce the road toll. Of course mandatory fitting of crash avoidance radars to vehicles would also help. Not by making people safer, but by making people's stupidity less of a factor.
See here, young man,
From Walgett to the sea,
From Conroy's Gap to Castlereagh,
There's none can ride like me.

In Victoria the speed traps are never where the warning signs are.

In Victoria you either spend more time looking at your speedo than the road
ahead or you get fined.

Who ever wrote "Dont speed etc etc"; do you actualy own
a sports bike.... that gets ridden.... on the road?

If you do, are you going to tell me you have never been over 110kmh?

I agree Vic is very draconian about speed, looking at the speedo all the time is a pita and a little unsafe in ways, but with a bit of experience over time you can tell by the feel of the bike what speed you are doing.

haha yes I speed, but not in front of on duty police.

Yes I own a few sports bikes: 2x ZX12R's, ZX10R, ZX6R tracky, 2x ZXR750's and have been to the top speed limiter many times over the years on the litre bikes (I could tell you some stories but that would be irresponsible)
( touch wood) I have been caught once for 13kmph/ 1 point over in the last 15 years . I am no angel at all in breaking other traffic laws believe me.
I ride thousands of kms interstate and locally every year, I dont commute often now and I do a few track days and I try NOT to attract the attention of the law. ;)
I have figured out that the extra 10kmph above the limit over 5hrs of touring will save me about 30mins time off my trip, hardly worth the fine imo and the 30mins with the cop..

All I said was dont speed and deny them the cash ;)

Let me explain about the above comment shall I as you clearly didnt get it.
If you speed and get caught dont whinge about the fine/ loss of points as you did it and that's the law, the law is usually adjusted to help save the lowest common denominator from themselves, police are there to uphold the law that our elected politicians put into law usually from public and media pressure.

So dont give them the satisfaction and dont add to the statistics to change a law.

Having said that I know plenty of roads where you are very unlikely to see law enforcement, however you have to travel way out of the city by at least one tank of fuel probably further. If you cant control yourself then take it too the track and get ya jollies off there, cheaper than a big speeding fine and much safer ;)

Anyway, blasting down straights at warp speed is easy and any one can point and shoot with very little skill, find some corners and try and maintain the speed limit through them without backing off, way more fun IMO

Oh here is a tip for ya, think like a cop and where you would likely catch speeding motorists, where would the sportsbikes usually go on a day like today, where would you get the best quota from to justify the flash pursuit vehicle and my job.

Hey jonno, no i dont get pissed off when i get caught, i take it on the chin, as i speed all the time, on bike, in the car, and my car stands out a bit, its a blood red enhanced tickford xr6 thats NOT quiet.
about taking it to the track, i do, often.been doing track days for 31 yrs, surfers, lakeside, winton, broady, PI. some of them u may not of heard of.
surfers closed in 82 and yes i was there, ran my drag bike there at the nationals in 82, and yes we used to do track days there, back then they were called open days. and yes i only do fast groups, champions wont let me ride med/ fast, so i must be cornering ok. and about only speeding in a straight line, ive been in melbourne since 97, and i have never been beaten in anger up the reefton, and only once thru the black spur, by a guy my age(50) i have some onboard footage taken a couple of yrs ago, thru the black spur, 13 min from the servo at the bottom of marysville(burnt down black sat) to the first 80k sign in healsville, on a naked z1000, with the girlfriend holding the camera!! so that will get some responce!!.And i do have a couple of mates that are cops, cops, not TOG.So if ur down the island on the 14, im open to be shown how to go fast around corners, allways willing to learn!!! i will be in fast group, so looking forward to been taught how to do it!!

So why are you still doing track days and road riding against the clock, why not go racing if you are that fast?

Let me just say that the Reefton Spur road is not straight by any means, I think I have riden it once or twice.

Dont own a 14 what gave you that idea? I have been slow all my life except on straights and at dinnertime ;)

You still missed my point and proved a few others ... whatever , now how about that onboard footage, I would like to see that 8)

Hey jonno,
Racing, if i got a dollar for everytime someone asked me that i would be a rich man!!
And yes i should have back in the early 80s, was giving a chance in 82 by a good mate, wayne jenkins who was a gp rider at the time, they gave me a chance on a tz 350 at lakeside, but i was drag racing at the time.it was allso at that time i was involed in a major crash, putting a drag bike down at a speed most people will never do, i spent the next 8yrs recovering from that, i suffered a severe head injury, broken bones, back in 3 places, plates in my left wrist, and to this day i do not remember one sec of it, only what spectators have told me later.and i had some other stuff going on that is personal, but it put a stop to that chance. And yes i still get asked why i dont, just the other day at broady a guy asked me the same qestion. 12months ago at broady wayne maxwell came up to me and asked me if i was the guy on the green zx10, yes i said, so we had a chat about the 07 ten, and he said, well mate u have obviously got ur head around it as ur not fucking hanging around out there on it, and no im not that fast on the track, i get hammered by young guys all the time, something to do with the nut sack shrinking with age!!! But i think i still go allright for a guy on the wrong side of 50.
Mate u can see the footage anytime ur down here, cause im not posting that footage on the net!!!
And it was the black spur, not reefton spur.and trust me i do have it. i was saying if u down the island on the 14 nov, not that u ride a 14.
And i do chose my time and place to play, thats why i still have 12 points.

cheers

I recently got a ticket from a mobile camera..
He was parked about 10 metres past a 60km sign. The previous speed zone was 80km. He seemed to be doing a brisk trade...
Although I dont like speeding tickets, I understand that you need to be going 60 BY THE TIME you reach the sign, not slowing down when you reach it. I wouldnt see any harm come to he who sat in that car, but if he does get testicular cancer I may chuckle.
The world is round. It has no point.

the latest police craze is their new speedcamera aeroplanes , they fly up and down the freeway near my place photo ing all the speedsters , intially they flew lowish and parallel to the freeway and you could see them , now they fly higher and further away just enough to ensure motorists cannot see them.Who said pigs can't fly :D

Probably as little late but im sure they have to be 50 meters or more away from a speed sighn especially if it changes speed. This is in there protocol.
