I did what any modern parent would do when looking for baby names, typed "hungarian boys names" into google.
How about the first name on this page: http://www.babynology.com/hungarian-boynames-f0.html

Ozkar is going great Glen. He is a lovely dog. He's getting really big and will not be a small Vizsla. More on the larger side as Vizsla's go. He is a bit disobedient, with the ex not keeping up with the disciplines, so he can be a handful to manage when out with Zsa Zsa. I only get him one, maybe two nights a week nowadays and Zsa Zsa is so lonely when I am at work so I had to get another dog. I was just a bit lucky to find a 6 1/2 month old boy who needed a new home. The people who are giving him up are really upset, but, they realise it is a better option for the dog. With me, he not only has another dog for company, but also a generous exercise and stimulation regime.Glen wrote:Arnie?

Zsa Zsa has been bike riding with me of late. Being unable to do much impact work, cycling is a great option to get me out and about and exercise Zsa Zsa. I go to a place which has nice easy flat gravelled fire trails for me to ride on and soft green grass alongside for her to trot alongside on. It works well. I can wear her out faster in one hour while on the bike, than I can in three hours walking her.
Once the new puppy reaches 12 months, he will be able to join in in the faster bike rides. Till then, the bike rides will be walking pace.
It will be interesting to see how it goes on the odd weekend when I do have Ozkar as well. Two Vizsla puppies and a teenage German Shorthaired Pointer will make for challenging walks!!!

Re: Forget it...Her name is Zsa Zsa (Ja Ja)
Well that was an exercise in futility. Mum (89) & Dad (91 + dementia), couldn't tell me the meanings or the origins of the names. They did however say that the names you mentioned can be loosely translated to English as boys names. Joska is roughly equivalent to Joey, Miksa, but they say it should be spelt Miska, equates to Mikey and Samuka they had no clue. They really had nothing to offer in the way of any other names. They have never been dog people.Strika wrote:Ahhh...some local knowledge would be good thanks Joe.
Joska, Miksa and Samuka are all interesting. Perhaps mum or dad could fill you in on what they mean???
If you have a look at the website from Tim's post, there's one, SANDOR = Helper & Defender of Mankind (pronounced sharndoor).
Personally, I'm more in favour of more anglo type names and short as well. My last three dobermans have been Zac, Ben & Jack.
However the naming of a dog is a very personal thing and at the end of the day, it's what sits well with you and that has some meaning for you.
Good Luck Marty, it doesn't really matter, you will love him just the same, I've seen how you treat Zsa Zsa.

Joe, as you have seen for yourself first hand, it's hard not to treat Zsa Zsa like that!!
She is a very sweet little puppy dog.

Congrats Marty. The dog looks to be in pretty good shape and I take his name is Astro? Anyway, he will have a pretty good life at your house along with Zsa Zsa. Plenty of love and exercise, what more could he want.

Re: Forget it...Her name is Zsa Zsa (Ja Ja)
Astro has settled in well. He is a key in a lock around here. Today, I had all three of them for the entire day. They are all still here, asleep, behind me on the couch as I type.
Astro has been a very good little boy. I am very happy with his personality and his intelligence. He literally has just sussed things out by watching and then conformed with how things work around here. He already knows the words Walk, Drive, Puppy park, Treat, Dinner, bedfred and Breakky!! Smartarse!!!
He was mega hyper active on Friday. But, this was more sensory overload and excitement than anything else. Saturday and today, he was a much more settled puppy. We had two long walks and one short puppy park visit each day, a few drives, some time left alone at home so he knows I will come back. It all went swimmingly well.

Re: Forget it...Her name is Zsa Zsa (Ja Ja)
Well fuck me if I haven't nailed the best little Pup. He is an absolute cracker!!!
He still needs to learn a few house rules. One being that my food and drink is not his
He's had a few sips of my drink on occasion. Apart from that though he is fantastic. I have walked him off lead from day one. He recalls instantly. Better than Zsa Zsa does most times
I have thought about changing his name, but it kinda suits him. If any of you are familiar with The Jetsons, then you will remember what Astro was like. My Astro, is kinda similar. He is a little funny and goofy, but, incredibly smart. He's only been here 5 nights and already I have taught him to find and brings things. He knows the difference between the rope and the ball and the frisbee already. He is a great sleeper, probably as he has never had so much exercise in his life. He crashes out about 7.30-87.00pm and doesn't move much till I get up at 5.30.

Ozkar's being dropped off in the back yard with the other two today. I am expecting the backyard to look like a war zone when I get home tonight. I just walked Zsa Zsa & Astro to try & expend some energy before he arrives.....

He's probably smarter than me, but that's no huge achievement even for a dogCath wrote:He sounds very smart - love the pic of all 3 of them splashing around

Jonno, it's actually easier with the two of them than one. They get stimulation all day, not just when I am home, so they are pretty relaxed doggies. Of course, Zsa Zsa sprints from smell to smell, bird to bird on our bush walks but she is now way more placid at home and has stopped trying to dig her way out. (i am fucked if she ever realises that she could actually jump the fence if she really tried.)
Ozkar has been thrown into the backyard with them today, so they may note up for a walk by the time I get home. Probably be knackered & just want dinner

Astro is just a sweet boy. I beside myself with how he has fitted in. He loves us, we love him. It works all round for everyone.
