$700 ????!!!!!! FMD !!!!
After doing this same conversion on the MFP12 last weekend.....all I can say is that it is farken sensational !! Comfortable and really easy to ride - feels like the Black Pearl on steroids .....
4th Dimension Products (TM) - total cost $0.00
Brian - you can adapt a set of bar-clamps from any old MX bike - I used the stock clamps from the original YZ500 top triple clamp. Drill 2 holes, make 2 long bushes for underneath the top clamp - and bingo, instant mounts.

Thanks Gos, sorry for the uber-slow response but I'd already arranged to buy a set of ABM risers off another forum, for $70. Such is life ...

Looks great but the UM is too radical for me. I've just had my first ride on my first 10R (always been a Honda boy) - an 08 RAM. Much more sophisticated in the sub-6000 range than expected and a nice box. HOWEVER IT KILLED MY WRISTS IN THE FIRST 5KM and I am a tourer rather than a track junkie.
On the Blackbird we used VFR clip-ons which worked stunningly well and were cheap to buy second-hand. What are the traditional choices for aftermarket clip-ons apart from Helibars.

Re: ZX10 R-UM is go..ne!!!!
I’m dragging up an old thread as I need to lift the bars on Nemo to be able to keep riding it. As it stands now I can only manage about 5 laps max before my neck and back give out and I have to come in. When I took the ZRX on the track I was staying out for the whole 20 minutes every session and felt good at the end of the day compared to when I ride the 10. So the question is, do I get hi-rise clip-ons and keep it semi sporty, or do I convert to ZRX style bars on the triple clamp and just go out to have fun and give up trying to ride faster?
Tape, how are you finding the conversion after living with it for so long, that is if you still ride.
Glen, I know you said at the time it just didn't feel right, but what was it exactly? Was it the bars were too wide? Or were they too far back????
I'm thinking I might be better off going for 3 inch high-rise clip-ons to keep the weight over the front end more, but I'm worried it won't be enough and I'll still find it uncomfortable. On the flip side, I'm worried if I get the ZRX bars I won't be able to get into the right position to ride fast.
So who else has done a conversion like this and what do you think?

Re: ZX10 R-UM is go..ne!!!!
Thanks mate, that helped a bit and then I went out with a ruler and sat on the bike to get a better feel for what positions would feel best. I decided to go with a 2.5 inch hi-rise clip-on from Woodcraft. https://www.woodcraft-cfm.com/cgi-bin/c ... &key=12-45
Hopefully it will give me enough relief while still allowing me to get into a decent riding position. I am also considering puting in an extra inch of foam to lift the seat a bit to ease the pain I get in my right knee as well. I'm really just buying time before I will have to graduate to a track ZRX or a motard.

On the road Nelso it just didn't feel right. The front end felt like you couldn't get it planted in a corner and the rear just felt stupidly harsh. The thing I learned was that you really are wasting your time trying to alter the fundamental ergonomics and balance of the bike and expecting it to feel as good without then spending a bucket on suspension.
If your struggling with Nemo why don't you punt it and get an FZ 1 or something similar.

Re: ZX10 R-UM is go..ne!!!!
The sad part is I was comfortable on the 9. Looking back, I would have been better off keeping it, but I was greedy at the time and wanted the extra power of the 10. Now that I have adapted to it a bit and spent the money on it that I have, I don't want to get rid of it; but I do need to get a bit more room to make it comfortable enough in order to do so. I think by stretching the controls out while still keeping the same riding position, it should give me the extra room I need without changing the handling characteristics too much. We'll see in a few weeks when I get the risers.

i rode quicker and smoother than i ever had on the road when i had the mx bars on... maybe that was just due to me having more experience, i dont know, i did pull the front end through slightly to compensate tho...Glen wrote:On the road Nelso it just didn't feel right. Re: ZX10 R-UM is go..ne!!!!
The bars were a success, except I crashed twice in two days (due to rider mistake and tyres) and bent both bars so I have had to order some replacements. The riser clip-ons survived fine.
The two and a half inch rise is a bit much for the track but I will just slide them down the forks a bit to drop them and they will be spot on. As they are now, they would be perfect for a road bike.
I will get pics of them when I put the bike back together.
