scammers

Post by Six Addict »

the latest scammer happens to be a biologist this time...
Owen,
I won't be able to come over because i live in Darwin and presently i'm working away as i'm a biologist and i'm doing research of plants and animals under water, which means i'm at the sea but i have equally arranged the courier agent that will come for the shipping after the payment have been made and as regards transferring the name of ownership and signing of all paperwork will be done by the courier agent so you don't have to worry about that.
Kindly send me your bank details as i'm ready to transfer the money into your bank account.
Kind Regards,
Greg.
he's also offering me $800 more than my asking price, and has asked me to take down the ad because he wants to be the number one buyer, and he will look after my bike even more than i did... which is not hard

Let him know you'll be in Darwin for a holiday and would like to catch up. Ask him for his business name and contact details......

I think we've put this up before.

They fake a transfer to your account, usually for more money that you are asking to cover shipping with a bit extra for you as a sweetener, saying that it's being held in escrow until their "shipping agent" has picked up the bike. Then they try to get you to pay some of the extra out of your own pocket to their agent, who won't turn up to pick up the bike until they've been paid the extra amount.

The amounts will be enough that if it was legit then you'd end up with extra money, except all that happens is you end up giving money to them via a method you can't use to get it back (e.g. Western Union), no money ever appears in your account and their faked identities dissappear of the face of the earth.

The sad bit is they wouldn't be doing it so much if it didn't work, so there must be plenty of suckers out there.

Tell him you are also a marine biologist and have an assignment in Darwin, this is why you are selling your bike. Then tell him that he can pay you cash, as chances are that you will be working on the same vessel he is on now.

Just email him back that you work for the defence department and his ip address has been given to interpol.

Alternatively ship the bike to my cousin in botany and I promise I will send the money via paypal

the other one...
Hello
Thanks for your reply . I was just thinking that you must have had some buyer's interested in buying the Bike from you and i think the best way to outbid all of them is by offering you an additional sum to your asking price, Just to let you know that am buying it for my Brother. But to start with i won't be available to come for the inspection my self due to my new Job transfer . I have a pick-up agent that will be contacting you on where and when the pick-up will take place after have completed the payment, but if you don't mind can you please tell me a little bit more about the present mechanical condition and how often do you service it and the history ? i will greatly appreciate your response then i can proceed with the payment transaction immediately
Regards

Phillip
i told him to go scam someone else

I had just woken after a post nightshift sleep and wasn't in the mood to play games when I had someone call me claiming to be from windows or some such crap. I just told them to f off and scam someone else and hung up on them.

Hi, this is a consistent scam, know of at least four instances here in Darwin using almost the exact wording, only difference two of them actually quoted a paypal receipt number, in all cases though the NT Police advised that it should always be reported even though it's a long shot catching anyone but if enough info can be built up over time it does increase the chance of catching the theiving mongrels, one thing to note is all the cases I have heard of up here have originated out of Tasmania!
