Not thinking of Rose Hancock by any chance ? ;)

No mate, Rose was just a "copy-cat'

Zsa Zsa was the original one, who kept the house after each of her divorces  .............and there was a few ;)

Hey Strika, good luck with her and Ozkar & Zsa Zsa, no doubt they're going to be great mates 8)

I woke up late this morning after two late nights in a row. Ozkar was sick on Friday night and I was up with him till about 3.30 when whatever it was (Most likely a tennis ball he chewed to bits) got out of his system and he settled down. Let me tell you it was friggin cold out on the verandah nursing a sick puppy at that time of a Melbourne night.....bbrrrr. Then last night I experienced a better curry than Phil has even imagined and another late night.

So about 12.00pm I called the animal shelter to see if it was OK to come up and spend some time with Zsa Zsa. They were more than happy to let me and Ozkar come up. We arrived about 12.40pm and stayed until about 3pm. They got on like a house on fire the entire time, without any jealousy issues from Ozkar, or her for that matter. She is bonding with me already which is nice. She will have a play, then come back and check in with me for a pat, then off for another play. Much the same as Ozkar does.

The staff were really good, they took us out to a big grassy area way out the back and let the three of us alone. I took the opportunity to do a little training while there. Just some basics. The first thing was to come to her new name when called. That didn't take long, as the staff have been calling her Zsa Zsa for a few days now too. Then I worked on sit. Which she nailed in about 5 minutes flat. For the remainder of the time, when the two of them were not playing, I worked on stopping her from jumping up on me. Ozkar has this habit too at the moment, as when my grandkids were stayig, they were too small to control him and he got the idea it was OK. I am training him out of that habit too. But, to Zsa Zsa's credit, she caught on a little quicker than Ozkar did today. So she does not lack intelligence.

I watched her for the entire time we were there and she is a typical GSP. Very interested in everything that is going on and much like a Vizsla, very sooky!!! :D

Summary of outcomes- :D :D :D :D :D

She has settled in in such a short time it's like she has been here all her life! She slept with me last night, didn't have an accident inside and waited till I opened the door to let her out to do her business. 8) She comes to her new name on first call everytime! She sits on command....almost evertime now. But she is getting there.

Her and Oskar are becoming great housemates and buddies. They chased each other around the back yard this morning, taking it in turns of being the chaser, then having a wrestle and a roll. Oskar has been really gentle with her, I think he realises she is in a little bit of pain still from her operation. Removal of en entire uterus has gotta hurt!!!! She has not winged once!!! :)

She is a gentle natured little girl, obedient and intelligent. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome at this early stage. 8) 8)

I have felt so much more relaxed over the past few days. Although I have been a bit crook............... with this thing I have, not going away and sometimes getting worse............. but, home life is pretty cool. 8)

I have a little routine, which Zsa Zsa knows now. Home after work and let her inside. Change into my Puppy Park clothes (Gum boots, black pastic bike pants, black plastic raincoat, winter bike gloves & beanie). As soon as the jacket goes on she starts ramping up the excitement levels. We hop in the car, both put our seatbelts on and drive up to the park. She starts getting excited a little later in the trip than Ozkar does, but, she has only had a week of this routine, so in time, it will end up like Ozkar, where Bunnings is the signal we are close!!

She gets at least an hour to run around, sometimes more if she is feeling energetic and there are lots of friends for her to play with. She will come and sit next to me when she has had enough.

We drive home, I get out of my dirty park clothes and we go and get her dinner. She inhales that in microseconds!! Then watches me as I make dinner. She will then sit watching me eat, hoping for a morsel to come her way. But, she never gets fed off a plate or at the table. If there are left overs, I will leave it for a few minutes then pop it into her bowl. I don't like dogs hassling people for food. She knows if she sits quietly, she will most likely get something. But, she knows if she hassles me, it goes in the bin too!!

After dinner, I get a warm wet towel and Zsa Zsa lays down for her pommy shower  . It depends on the mud levels and the amounts of times she wrestles in it as to if she gets the warm towel, or a full bath. But she prefers the warm towel. Last night, I had to wake her up half way through she was so relaxed.

Then, I will usually jump online for half an hour while surfing tellie. Zsa Zsa will go and sit on her chair while I do this. Then, once I move myself to the lounge, she comes and lays next to me with her head on my lap copping ear and neck rubs and backs of fingers down her cheeks. All of which she adores and is soon snoring. 8)

Not long after that, we hit the hay. She sits by the bed until I have my jim jams on and am under the covers and then she will hop up and lay next to me on top of the doonah. Thankfully, she is not a doonah creeper like Ozkar is. He slides under the covers and drags them off you at the same time. Zsa Zsa is a little gentler and just snuggles up next to you absorbiing the warmth coming off your body. :)

Usually, I wake up laying on my back, with Zsa Zsa's little chin sitting on my shoulder and her nose buried into my neck. :D

Once again, for those who arn't doggy people, you're most likely digusted, but for me, it's almost heaven on a stick......

She is not spoilt, but she does get a fair amount of exercise and attention. I walk her before I leave for work, I go home and walk her at lunch time most days and another walk or puppy park visit every night.

She is becoming more and more understanding of what I want from her. She responds well to training. The thing I like, is I can train with or without food reward as she is just as praise responsive as she is food responsive. So on our walks by ourself, it is food reward and at the puppy park, it's praise reward. I have her at a point now, where she can be in mid play up to 100 metres away from me and will recall immediately she hears me call her. Then, the look in her eyes and the speed at which she runs to you is just gobsmacking. She will sprint and then come to a dead stop in front of you. But, it goes from full speed to stop! There is no slowing down. And the look in her eyes as she does it, is one of immense pleasure as she knows how it pleases me.

I am a little concerned about some skitish behaviour over the past two days and am hoping that nobody else who has access to the house may have said/reacted/done something to cause her to behave this way, but I will keep an eye on it. It may just be her getting used to the daily routine, as she has only been with me for 13 days. But, there were some odd doggy paw prints in a certain pattern around the house, suggesting she was potentially locked out while others where allowed inside. WHich would naturally stress her. But, can't be sure, so won't point fingers....

Speaking of pointing, Zsa Zsa has some strong bird instinct. I watched her stalk a bird for 45 minutes on the weekend. She also tracks well. When we go walking, i will often take eratic paths along the way and on the way back, I get her to follow her nose. She literally sticks to the path like glue. Every twist and turn or double back I did on the way there, she will follow it all the way home. She seems to enjoy it, so perhaps it might be an activity I should investigate for her. 8)

"She is not spoilt" Yeah Right Marty....But good onya...They are here for a short period, during which their world & love revolves around you & it's our job to make their time the most beautiful, loved & happy time possible.
BTW, rig up a motion detection pinhole camera, it might give you some leverage with Ozkar

Na, the old hair across the door jam trick. Light sprinkle of Talc powder on the tiled areas. Even leave a treat to be found ;)

I reckon these dogs can smell things on the opposite side of the world the way they push their nose into the ground.
My mas/ridgeback was the same, she would follow animal tracks everywhere and pull like a steam train to get there.

mmm.....might have to cut the food intake back a little. Even with the two to three walks per day, including the puppy park madness, Zsa Zsa has....err......umm.........grown into her coat! She is laying on her mat next to me right now and I cannot see her ribs sticking through. That's a sure sign that she is eating too much. It sure isn't from lack of exercise.

I blame Glen...he put me onto a new food and it obviously agrees with her!!

Mick, the health and wellbeing of a family member is paramount in some peoples lives. Zsa Zsa is a special needs child. She can't speak the same language as us, she walks differently, has a slight excessive hair problem for a girl and has no issues laying on her back with her legs spread wide hoping for nothing more than a belly rub. So, diverting some of my personal time to assist in making her life a little more enjoyable, is part of having a family.

this morning, Ozkar came over again for a few hours, so they got to play together. I tried to take some pics, but without a full DSLR I can't get the shutter speed fast enough to capture them. They wrestle and chase each other all over the house and yard non stop. They take it in turns as to who wins. Each giving the other the chance to be the dominant one. Ozkar is a BIG PUPPY now. He towers over Zsa Zsa. After they left, she had a bone while I unpacked the groceries. Then a little play with her new duck which she got yesterday and now she is asleep at my feet. I am still crook, havn't been able to stand up much this week, with the hips, knees and feet really painfull. Went back to the doc today and she has upped the roids again to get on top of it. MRI's are monday & Tuesday and next Rheumo appointment is the 12th July, so hopefully by then, I will have some idea of what it actually is and how they are going to treat it.

But, that's meant I have been able to spend loads of time with Zsa Zsa. While I can't walk too much, the puppy park takes care of that. I park my arse on a bench and she runs up and down the park chasing other dogs or being chased till she is tired and then we drive home again.

Just gotta wait till this last pain pill settles before I can take her up as I couldn't gaurantee my driving ability right now..... :)

Glen, try and keep Ozzy quiet as best you can for at least three or four days. don't let her jump up on you or extend her torso as best you can. Try not to excite her, as she needs a few days for the wound to seal properly so she doesn't tear the stitches or herniate it.

I had another doggy day today. It was pretty cool actually. We cruised up into the mountains early this morning and walked through the bush for two hours. She got to experience lots of smells of kangaroos and wombats. We also encountered a horse and rider, which was exciting for her. She handled it well and actually wanted to go and say hello to the horse. She wasn't intimidated by it at all. I fucking was, it was a big horse!!!

I took water with me, but won't bother next time as Zsa Zsa likes puddles and creeks to drink from rather than that clean stuff you get from a tap!! She didn't stop running the entire time we were out. She would run up 100metres or so in front, just in eyesight, then she would sprint back to me to check it was OK, then off again. She must have covered 4 times as much ground as I did and I reckon we walked for 8 or 10 klms through the bush. But, she had a shit eating grin the whole time! I don't think I have seen her so happy before. Just out and about running free, sniffing, exploring the bush, the creeks, the water holes and puddles.

It was me who called an end to proceedings, not her. She didn't want to get back in the car!!! It was like..come on...not yet...can't we stay a little longer!! It's like having a little kid...

We then drove straight down to Carrum Beach and we went for a beach walk. Well, I went for a beach walk and Zsa Zsa spent most of her time running in & out of the water. She is definately a water dog. Any chance she got today, she was into it. Puddles, creeks, dams and the ocean. The ocean was a funny one. She was like .. "Fuck...how good is this!!" She wasn't quite so sure about the taste of the salt water though. thankfully once she had experienced it's taste a couple of times, she stopped trying to drink it.

We then went home for me to have lunch and her to sleep. Then down to the puppy park for an hours play with the other puppies. This is always a good mental and physical exhauster. Then, just before she had dinner and before it got too cold, we went for one more walk, finishing with a visit to the next door neighbours for the neighbours kids to pull her ears and tail. She is a good girl and patiently cops it all.

Then I made her dinner and fed her. While she inhaled hers, I made mine, gave her a bone to keep her busy while I ate and had my dinner. I am tired just retelling all that. I didn;t realise how much we had done till I wrote it out!

Anyway, it was a great day, Zsa Zsa is just turning into a fantastic little puppy. She is so obedient generally, so gentle and polite. I am looking forward to a few years time when we have got to the point where she just reads me without having to ask or be told. I have had a few dogs which have been at that stage and it is pretty amazing when it happens. I have seen a few people over the years who have that same bond and it's obvious to see.
