2010 ZX10 Traction Control
Been reading alot about the 2010 traction control on my zx10. Couple quick points
1. I know it's meant to be a basic, and not fully exploited system......but does it work?
2. Has it really saved anyone who's been a little ham fisted exiting a corner in the wet or on a track day.
I ask this not because I wanna be a knob a do something stupid, but because my weakest point when I'm doing track days is knowing how much and how soon I can get on the gas coming out of turns. I'm fast in the corners and deep and late on the brakes, but I often get smoked coming off the turns cos I'm shit scared I'm gonna high side it.

Re: 2010 ZX10 Traction Control
i think the 2010 had this system called kims... whenever i saw russ ride his, he seemed to be able to slide the rear end at will... i dont really think that system does much...

Re: 2010 ZX10 Traction Control
Straight out of 08/09 service manual ;
This motorcycle is equipped with the Kawasaki ignition management system which was developed as a rider aid for track riding using technology borrowed from racing machines. Experienced racers or track riders can deliberately cause wheel spin to occur when exiting mid/high speed corners. However, they rely on precise throttle control to maintain the optimum acceleration level without sacrificing too much wheel spin. KIMS was designed to aid such riding where precise throttle control is required.
This system has not been developed to eliminate all wheel spin, as there are times when this can be advantageous for experienced riders, and too much control would lead to a very sterile riding experience
Operation
In addition to normal DFI activity the ECU’s complex programme monitors throttle opening, vehicle speed, gear position, and the rate of
change of engine speed.
When the ECU detects the rear wheel is slipping by a sudden change in engine speed, the previously mentioned factors are calculated
and within certain parameters the ignition timing is retarded to reduce excessive engine speed. The number of degrees that the ECU
retards the ignition is determined by continuous sampling, with the aim being to optimize the relationship between throttle opening, engine/vehicle speed and ultimately ensuring the optimum combination of grip/acceleration.
If you want a copy.. PM me your email address and Ill send the PDF file which has the whole 600+ pages of the service manual .
Cheers

Re: 2010 ZX10 Traction Control
Hmmm I just read it all and to be honest I wouldn't be taking my chances with it. Hell... I wouldn't even take my chances with the TC on the 2011 model! hahaha

That might work for Gobert when he's riding someone elses bike but screw that theory when its your own bike $$.BlackRabbit wrote:As Gobert said...."if you're not crashing now and then....you're not trying hard enough"

Re: 2010 ZX10 Traction Control
The KIMS measures throttle position among many things. So if you ham fisted in the wet it will not stop anything. It is designed to stop rev spikes at low speeds and little throttle position. If you wot it thinks you mean to spin the wheel And won't stop it. I had mine spinnin all the time.

Re: 2010 ZX10 Traction Control
early on i came around a slowish right hander probably doing 70km - 80km with the bike cranked right over or so it felt , the back wheel hit a raised rut in the middle of road and actually caused the rear wheel to lift and then i felt the throttle go neutral the tc sensor may have kicked in ,to be honest i don't know if it was that or not.2. Has it really saved anyone who's been a little ham fisted exiting a corner in the wet or on a track day.
