Well this is a good discussion, and now my 2c worth.

For the levers, cheap and time and use will tell if nasty, as it stands from various members they seem a real goer.

China do know how to copy, thats there thing and are bloody good at it. However some real shit comes out of there like many major manufacturing countries.

The streotype adopted by some about Chinese products is suprising and a touch hipocritical, in my industry of Glass and Facade (that will catch madkaws attention hey dave ) China is a major supplier with mostly better quality and better price than most local suppliers and thats only if local can even make it.

With this said it may or may not be the case for these levers.

The sweatshop comment must be aimed at "local sweatshops", in china its called employment as different countries have very different legislations.

The trouble with Chinese made "stuff" is the quality is inconsistant. I know of no quality auto repair shop, (in Utah, U.S.A.) that uses Chinese replacement parts, as the quality is questionable and they will not place their reputation on these parts. Checker Auto, Auto Zone and others in the states sell cheap Chinese replacement parts. I use them for non safety replacement items on my automobiles but will not use Chinese hubs or suspension parts. The trouble with Chinese parts is they use dirty metal, (an alloy that is not pure but contains non metal elements or compounds that was improperly refined for the purpose intended). This is not always the case but is prevelant enough that I will never use Chinese stuff on my motorcycle. We are riding a vehicle that is like an airplane, if we have a structural failure we will probably crash!
I agree that the U.S. produces some crappy shit, (Chrysler Corp., Harley doglison, etc.) but some are trying to improve, (Ford Motor Co., general Motors to name a few). But all in all I do not trust stuff from China. By the way Taiwan although considered by some to be part of China produces some pretty good shit.

I think some of you are confusing Taiwan and Thailand, Taiwan is an island off China Thailand is a country West of Vietnam, North of Cambodia on the continent of Asia. It is a backward shithole country and the only thing they manufactor there are whores and heroin. I don't think they manufactor anything there pertaining to motorcycles. Of course I could be wrong as I haven't been there since 1966. Where Taiwan is a modern country with somewhat updated manufactoring facilities, (in comparison to China) and produces some OK shit sometimes.

The Honda NSR150 was a motorcycle produced in Thailand by Honda and Taiwan as Honda NSR by Kymco and also manufactured under the name Kymco NSR. The early Taiwanese NSR150 was produced with engines from Japan, but was later casted in Taiwan by Kymco which in the beginning was off less pure quality than the Japanese ones.

Its true the frame in these is pretty shitty, in fact I am scraping the current project because of this & other issues around the questionable quality in general

1966 was 45 years ago and, oddly enough things change. Thailand is a beautiful country with kind natured people. It is also a massive manufacturing centre for automotive companies globally, both two and four wheels. Ford, GM, Isuzu, Mazda to name but a few, all manufacture out of Thailand. Lot's of aftermarket parts are also made there.

Taiwan is also a country that manufacturers world class bike frames (cycling)..... theres the same argument over taiwanese branded carbon fibre frames vs big name brands that come out of that country... (i.e the both come out of the same factory)....

all the new hilux's come out of thailand, so do drunk german backpackers kawasaki and honda both produce most of their motorcycles in thailand... i think the ZX10R, the 14 and maybe the 6 are the only bikes manufactured in japan these days...
