SCAM ALERT

Post by seiko1 »

Some of our customers are.....let's say a little infirm.
An old guy just rang in a panic saying that a guy with an indian accent rang claiming to be from Microsoft
and that his PC was at risk.
He walked him through downloading a nasty little virus to take control of his PC
and then called back while I was there to get the Bank details for payment....
I had a little fun with the bastard until finally telling him the Feds were tracing the line....of course they weren't
but he hung up pretty damn quick

I think Tape had the same scam pulled on him - in true Tape fashion he was nicely told to fornicate with livestock or similar...

Seem to be on the prowl. Had a mate recieve one a week ago. If you ever get called by any company for any reason. Ask them what it's about and their name, hang up, and call the company yourself and get it sorted.

Had to go back and re- re format their PC and the persistent little fucker kept on calling
back threatening police action unless they paid.
On the third call I told him that I was going to dip his mother and sister in cow's blood and, in great detail, explained
what I was going to do to them while the grandmother watched....
He went fucken RABID
Before hanging up I said that the call had been traced to the telstra call centre.....he hasn't rung back since
Could this be true? Their number is private and the fucker isn't calling back

Anyway, it was so successful, I might do it to the one's that come to my door

If you keep getting harassing calls, you can make a complaint to the cops / or your telco. You may not be able to see the number, but there would be some form of record of the number somewhere within their call history with your number as the destination. It may not lead anywhere, but if the bastard calls again and you've taken note of times & dates when he's called in the past, then make a complaint. It's not vexacious and it might actually cause something to happen, might.

we're still getting calls at work about indian sounding guys (usually with a name of David Williams) telling people the tax office is giving them $$ for paying their electricity bills on time - and people believe this!

Haha yea I had one of those guys call I think I kept him on the line for about 15 minutes spinning him around in circles untill I told him that I actually work in IT, microsofts privacy policy stipulates that the do not gather personally identifiable information. Then he said something about being from our service provider and couldnt tell me what service in particular. Was quite amusimg and he started getting angry at me when I kept qustioning him. I finally told him where he could shove his scam and he hung up it was really funny :)

Most be an awesome past time with so many people getting in on it. I just feel like maybe we here at KSRC are missing out on a large piece of the action??? What I suggest is that we get all of the customer details that we can from places like Honda and Yamaha and Suzuki. We won't bother with the europeeeeens and amercaaaans for obvious reasons. Then we invite them for a free test ride of the latest and greatest example of what ever POS they last bought. But when they get there, BAM sit the bastarges on Kwaka. That'll teach 'em! Yeah?

I received a sms on my work phone (that i only ever use to call/recieve calls from colleagues) announcing i had won a few million in a lottery and had to email someone to get the details about how to collect it. Funny thing is the sms from field was listed as "the world bank".

Showed my workmate, had a laugh, deleted it.
