I think he was the type of guy that polarised people around him...friend or foe.
Have to agree, respect his talents both as a driver and as a team owner and his business acumen but his was a hard bastard that was either liked or not.
I believe the polariser should be credited to Peter Brock not Walkinshaw and when HRT was formed under the banner of Walkinshaw they struggled. I remember when the first Walkinshaw, the VL commodore came out with the aero kit. Larry Perkins refused to race it at Bathurst saying it punched a hole in the air like a truck. He did race it the following year though so maybe the air was thinner the following year.
I thought that the polarizer was the cause of the rift between Holden and Brocky that ended HRT. Which then paved the way for TWR to team up with Holden to begin HSV.

Not trying to change the thread tom deserves our respect, but If my memory is correct Dutchy and Nick you are right the polarizer was the start of PB's problems with holden but what finished it all was finance or lack of it from GMH & a big bust up PB had with Harvey down at the workshop in Port Melbourne, which actually stemmed from PB at the SPA 24hr , I remember there was a photo maybe in wheels mag of PB & his crew with the car on jacks with heaps of candles in a circle around them before the race started, he really had some alternate thoughts did PB.
