Hi all,
I have a Kawasaki ER-6n 2007 model with about 6000km on the tacho. I can feel "strong" vibrations in the handle bars, seat, mirrors and foot pegs. When going over 60-70km/h the mirrors start to have a vibration run through them that makes viewing what is behind almost impossible to distinguish. Has anyone else had this same experience?
I say "strong" compared to my previous bike that was pretty smooth and haven't felt any vibrations around the bike except in the seat. Also everyone in my passenger seat complains too about the pegs and seat vibrations so looks like the vibrations are all over the bike.
I read couple of threads on some forums that this bike is known of it's vibrations due to no engine rubber suspension underneath the seat and no rubber cover on the top of the foot pegs (2007 and 2008 models at least, not sure for 2009 and onwards). This is my first twin bike and I'm not sure if this kind of vibrations are normal so thought it's worth asking here.
I have no idea if the bike even had the first service on 1000km since the previous owner lost the book and the manual. The bike is due to service any way so will discuss this with the guys at the Kawasaki dealership too.
Thanks

Re: Kawasaki ER-6n vibrations
Gday ......... it's a parallel twin so you will have to expect a degree of vibration.
Some early models ( France & US ) experienced frame cracking in the areas in red in the attached pic. Not sure if it happened here,
but the vibration was enough to crack the metal bracket on the OEM crash knob brackets. ( Crash knobs & brackets shown are the 2nd gen. replacements ).

Re: Kawasaki ER-6n vibrations
I have the mirror vibrations on mine. Don't feel much in the way of other vibrations but I've mainly ridden twins. It gets smoother out around 7000rpm.
Is your suspension set right?

You can download the owners manual from the kawasaki web site and it has the settings.

Re: Kawasaki ER-6n vibrations
I have two ER6ns and they both vibe, one worse than the other. I bought one new and one used. The used is better than the new one. I wonder if the vibes come from unbalanced throttle bodies? Maybe loose engine mountings? Let us know if you find out anything.

2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R
Yeah I like Kawasakis.

Re: Kawasaki ER-6n vibrations
When I received the replacement OEM crash knobs, in the install notes it mentioned packing the free space between engine mount and crash knob mounting plate to eliminate any gap.
The gap on each side when I removed the 1st gen. knobs was 3-4 mm !
So .... maybe loosen off the engine to frame mounts one side at a time and pack the gap with suitable washers, so the frame is not pulled back to the mounting plate.
