So who's into Home Theatre?

Post by seiko1 »

I bought my first Digital amp (5.1) way back at xmas 98/99 , just because of Saving Private Ryan.
It was then years before they even released it on VHS
It has taken twelve damn year's to finally hear it the same way I heard it in the Cairns Cinema.
Now on my second Digital Amp and second Blu-ray player.
I have the Yamaha RX-V757 amp which was (of course) the last to be released without HDMI (FFS)
7.1 surround by anologue inputs only which is why I just upgraded to the Panasonic DMP-BD85.
The Blu-ray has onboard DTS HD Master and Dolby True HD decoding and is connected to the Amp via
8 analogue rca leads. (HDMI directly to the projector)
Sound is fucking awesome!!!!!! Private Ryan blows out the windows and you feel like your on the beach with them :D :D :D :D :D
Player has wireless internet also, so last night I was watching and listening to, Youtube music video's on the Bigscreen :kuda:

Now....what to do with the Private Ryan DVD's.....one with Dolby 5.1 and the other with DTS 5.1

I bought myself a Panasonic Bluray / iPod docking station home theatre that uses the HDMI Viera link to my Panasonic plasma. The unit with wireless rear speakers and internet capability...... Fantastic unit, sounds is shit hot and the best bit is I can drive this, the TV and the Panasonic HDD / recorder off the one remote control.

Love the least amount of remotes on the table!!!!

Well I've got myself a 100inch elegance fixed screen with a OPTOMA HD7100 projector, ONKYO TX-SR805 amp with a panasonic dvd which upscales to 1080p (I haven't gone bluray yet) and DALI speakers and Sub. I also use a TOPFIELD 7100 PVR. I reckon the amp is fantastic, I upgraded from a HARMON KARDON due to the lack of HDMI due to age. Moving in with girlfriend at the moment and downgrading to a 47inch LED TV due to the lighting and size of the room. Watching movies, footy and even normal tv on the projecter is amazing, better than going to the cinema coz you don't have to drive home after. The LED tv is a good thing but I reckon it'll be back to the movie cinema for all the blockbusters now.

Also got a Universal remote to run the show.

MY PC has got a 120W 5.1 logitec system - which is 6 years old and far above the TV sound capability. One day I plan a theathre room that looks something similar to Metallica stage outfit - one day...

I have a 5.1 system which is more like a 3.1 as the centre and front left drivers seem to have gone :-\. Havent used it in a while, fired it up the other day and remembered why i stopped using it *sigh*.

Also the fact that the amp was underrated for the speakers to the point i have to turn it up to 1/2 to at least get a decent volume didn't help the lack of use of it. I might get a new one soon, Although mine has dts as well, it still has an absolute maze of RCA out the back, which is a touch messy.

My lamp life is supposed to be 2500hrs but it's done over 9000hrs now and still running fine. I have a spare sitting there just in case. I've found if you don't turn it on and off too often they last longer, I guess it's sort of like heat cycles with tyres.

I think wardy is referring to the OPTOMA HD7100 projector as stated above?
