KLX Motard conversion

Post by Reedy »

Thinking about getting a KLX 300 and sticking some motard tires on it. Can I just stick some motard tires on the existing rims and go?

Whats the deal here?

Cheers :D

you will have a limited range of tyres to suite the big rims. you won't be able to get super sticky rubber.

but Avon do harley tyres in a 21inch front, so they are ok.

Only issue is you wont have big front brakes. The stock ones are ok, but not really race track ready.

I used to have an XR600, with a Dunlop arrowmax rear (140 i think??) amd a 80%road, 20% dirt front. (like a smooth knobly) and used to scrape pegs everywhere.

I was looking at something like these: http://www.shinkotireusa.com/product/product.php?id=63

This thing is registered, so basically I can do a tire change and should be good to go...
I don't know if i'd specifically go and do a track day with it but that could be fun.

I was also reading that the draw back is the small disc on the front but the standard will cut the mustard. Like you said wattie.

Project Motard begins.......if i can get it down from qld
