WSBK vs MotoGP

Post by Lone Wolf »

Maybe its just me, but I have never been able to get into 500GP/MotoGP as much as WSBK (possibly with the exception of 2003, the year of the Ducati Cup) and last nights racing didn't help. I'm not sure if it's just how the races are covered, or the commentary even, but I just find Superbikes so much more entertaining and GP's, well......boring.
I know the 500's and now the MotoGP class is supposed to be the pinnacle of motorcycle racing, but am I the only one who really doesn't get into it? I've followed Superbikes from way back to about 1995, and as much as I've tried, I just can't enjoy GP's anywhere near as much.
Last night the WSBK at Valencia was exciting, MotoGP........boredom central (Greg Rust certainly didn't help the cause)

Your thoughts?

Haven't watched Valencia yet, but I thought last night's MotoGP was pretty good....although agree that Rust and Beattie aren't the most exciting commentators.

I'm already missing Foxtel's coverage

I struggle to really get into the WSBK and I don't know why...

I'm a GP fan and have been for a long time. But for me, it's not just about the 40 minutes of racing 17 times a year. It's a year long thing. Everything from qualifying, silly season, testing times, rider movements, rider rivalries to sponsorships and so on...

GP is the pinnacle of the sport and i reckon the majority of WBSK riders want to be there...

I'm a bit the same. I enjoy watching the Supers but I much prefer the GP's even though as a spectacle it's not what it was back in the 80's. Like Dave I don't really know why as the racing in supers is probably better but there's still something about MotoGP.
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.

Before moving to Aus I only used to watch WSBK, but they hardly televise it here...

funny enough i don't mind both, but if im not in the mood for it, unfortunately I can get bored of any sport easily. So i might watch it the whole way through (wsbk or motogp) or have my eyes glaze over after 20 minutes and then wander off/flick channels.

last nights motogp race was awesome!!! and from the highlights of the moto2 i saw, it looked like a demolition derby :kuda: wsbk sometimes has betetr racing, but i think one thing that helps its appeal is the fact that the bikes are badged and heavily based on a bike you can buy... ie you can go out and buy a ZX10 and feel like you have some link and maybe even 1/10th the talent of vermulen... i think that makes it a little bit more awesome than it would otherwise be...

Always, on foxtel

Dunno, maybe it really is just me. But I just cannot get into the whole MotoGP thing. I could at least watch the 500's, but it's always been superbikes for me. I even find myself accepting Biaggi doing really well a lot more these days too

It's been a regular on Fox for a few years now mate ? Back in the 90's, yeah, it was a lot harder to see live....

I have been a huge fan of the GP class since basically forever. Back before SBS started to show the GP circus in the mid-80's, when WG was making waves - all we had was REVS motorcycle news and stories about Kenny Roberts v Barry Sheene - plus the supporting acts which for a while included Gregg Hansford on the KR250/350 - those were the days !! A full card of races that went all day, all GP classes as well - 80cc, 125cc, 250cc, 350cc and the big-banger 500cc class.

Definitely the cream of motorcycle racing. It got a tad boring in the 90's, when the class basically became a race to see who could get 2nd place behind Dick Moohan - but in the years before that - just fantastic racing really.

WSB never interested me much at all back then - apart from not being televised, it seemed to be nothing more than the World Ducati Superbike Championships - always with rules that favoured the twins against the fours.

Glad to see that in the races last night, at one point there was not 1 ducati in the first 9 places !!! For a production-based class, competition like that can only be good.

In the last few years, I reckon the racing is often better in WSB, but the 'cream' of the crop - will always be GP.

I agree, world supers is not only better to watch for the most part, but it's also a way better event at the Island too!!!! :D
