Knight in white van

Post by photomike666 »

So there I was, driving along to buy a filter for the wading pool, thanking the gods of Aircon, when I see a bike parked at the the side of the road and a rider laying on the grass. My initial thought was that someone was just cooling off, but being as I only just passed the plaza I thought I throw a U-turn (A legal one) and slide past to make sure they were OK.

Rider turned out to be a young lady called Leanne, who had an emense amount of oil coating her rear wheel. It seems she had changed her oil filter, and either it wasn't tight enough or the seal had popped out. Either way she was stuck. Her hubby Terry was off to get a trailer, but they were happier with the GSXR600 in the van.

So we strapped the GSXR in, drove home and had a nice chat when the bike was unloaded. Turned out to be a really nice couple who are just getting into road bikes having ridden chuck chasers for a while.

Not only do I feel good for doing a friendly deed for a fellow biker, I might just have made a couple of new friends in the process.

Yeah mate always pays to help someone out...

I live in Tarcutta (on the Hume near Wagga). A few weeks ago I was flicking through some forums late at night and came across a post on the CR site. A guy from Canberra had been to Tassy to collect a special (for him) bike and had suffered a tyre failure on the trailer and didn't have a spare....just south of Tarcutta.

He had contacted a mate from Canberra to come to his rescue and then posted his woe on the CR site just before I browsed it as he had his laptop with him and mobile broadband. Grabbed a wheel from my trailer trundled down to where he was, we fitted the tyre and he was back on his way about half an hour later.

Had he posted 10 minutes later I would have missed it and his mate would have had to travel about 3 hours each way to rescue him. As it was it was no biggie for me...about half an hours time and 10c petrol.

Well done BUT down here in Vic, the RACV have roadside assistance for bikes and they provide a truck if you get stuck.
http://www.racv.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/ ... side+care/
I've got total care which covers whatever I'm driving/riding and the car is covered no matter who is in it.

Do you only have to pay one subscription? If so far better than here. I have premium care on both the bike and car but have to pay 2 subscriptions.

Don't consider it awesome...a few minutes drive was all it cost me. Up side for me, same as photomike666, was to make new rider friends. :kuda:

Its one sub but about twice what it costs for one vehicle. Two of us cover 2 cars and 3 bikes. Four of us drive the cars and they are covered no matter who drives them.
Even get cab vouchers if your car is towed. Got us to the airport last sat when one of the cars broke down friday! (farkin alternator)

Yeah I read that too! just trying to remember where :?
well done! best I've done was stopped on the M4 once to help a 999 rider that had run out of fuel, I had the race bike on the trailer so had a jerry can of fuel which he was very grateful for, he was pushing the bike and it must have been about 30 degrees!
then there was once I stopped for a Harley guy who had a flat tyre about 2 mins from my place, I asked him if he wanted a hand to fix it and he said "No Thanks, the NRMA are on there way!"
