Uneven Tyre Wear on Pilot Power
So, there I was just minding me own business when ol mate pulls up behind me and says "Mate ya tyre Farked!" Imagine my suprise..."What?", I said..."Yeah clean throught to the Braid"...So, only 30K's from home I decided best not worry me'self; they were ok this mornin' before I went up the putty; best leave it till I get home. Anyway, he was right. Not so bad all the way round, but prodominantly in only one section...See pics. Anyone seen this type of wear before? Looks like it's delaminating from the carkas. No burnouts ever done on this tyre and while it is in pretty bad shape in general, there is still rubber on the majoity. Is this normal? Cos if it is then I think all of Hoffy's propaganda don't mean shit, lol. Any thoughts.

Have you done a lot of straightline on extremely hot roads?

Nah, not really. It's not a commuter and only really ride from the riff to OPH, Bells and the Putty. This happeened on way back down the putty this weekend. I only really gave it to it across one 15K stretch though and it wasn't really straight...

I'm assuming you went past the minimum wear indicators months and months ago?

You may need to inspect your tyres more often

Re: Uneven Tyre Wear on Pilot Power
that's not uneven wear mate - its just that your tyre is well and truly rooted !!!
Mick C did this to a Pirelli a couple of years ago on his mates ZX14 - the tyre was looking close to replacement before the trip, but one *really* hard strop down near Halls Gap saw the tyre down to the belts in just *one* tiny little spot.
All tyres do this when you get to this point - they never start to show the belts all around the circumference of the tyre at exactly the same time, they start at one spot and just begin to wear out along the circumference from there.....

Nah not really; they seemed ok; to the point I really hadn't even thought about replacement, particularly given the edge wasn't terrible and the front is fine. I check the tyres out at every stop and really thought they were better than that but maybe they weren't? Sounds like Gos is on the money...similar situation to Mick C, I suppose.tim wrote:I'm assuming you went past the minimum wear indicators months and months ago?

Yeah, Mine too, I love the feel and grip, but just thought this was weird...Never owned a litre bike before either, so maybe expectaions a little off too..swearbear9r wrote:yer i ges . all up to how u use them i ges . i put them on my nine last time and there still awasome after 3000 and still the same nice round profile.. think i might get them again next.......

Here is a picture of the Pirelli that Mick trashed - it did last all the way back to Canberra from Halls Gap, this shot was taken when it finally made it home.....

Re: Uneven Tyre Wear on Pilot Power
Yep, once you're getting towards the end of the tyre it can dissappear a lot quicker than you think and there's not really a lot of rubber left once you've got to the bottom of the tread. It's also usually pretty uneven like you got on the Michelin.
The tyre above didn't look too bad when we left HG, I thought it had another couple of thousand in it, but by Deniliquin it was already starting to show through to the belts. I had a good look at it when they pulled it off and that gap in the middle of the belts where I'd worn through them had just the lining rubber on the inside of the tyre left....I'd say it was less than 1mm thick, that was it

Re: Uneven Tyre Wear on Pilot Power
Now this is uneven tyre wear on a BT45.
Bloody ridiculous if you ask me
We discovered this just east of Broken Hill

As you can see the tyre is well and truely below the wear markers, in fact there is no tread left at all.
Now on the other side of the tyre it looks like this
