Good find... I'd almost buy from there if my staff price wasn't as good...

New version of HDMI is out (1.4) it has intergrated ethernet... Not really any devices out at the moment that will benifit from it tho haha... Therefore a little pointless.. Aside from the ethernet capabilities it is vurtualy the same as 1.3c
Do what you do, and do it well...

honestly I agree with the site. For those that say gaming is better on an LCD you are wrong... whilst the article suggests the difference is basically neglible. The Maximum Refresh rate of LCD's is around 200Mhz (if you buy a Sony). I believe the rates on a Plasma can get up closer to 480mhz. This means that moving parts (eg a ball across the screen) are actually visible on a plasma. This also applies to games. Gaming on a Plasma still wins (just). If your TV hadn't broken now, in a while they will improve the LED tv's and then that will smoke Plasma.

The argument regarding gaming on plasma and LCD's has nothing to do with game quality. Picture quality in most cases is better on a plasma.. Thats just the cold hard truth (yes LED's will shit all over them). The reason ppl discuss gaming and TV's is because of the burn in factor... A plasma will burn an image on to the screen if left for a period of time.. This is obviously only an issue with tital screens etc... Personally I'm a plasma man... Each to their own.

plasma has light emitting per pixel, as will LED screens. LCD use backlighting, so the picture quality is only as good as the design of the backlighting by the manufacturer. This is why the colour dynamics are so much stronger in plasma, when its dark, the cell is off, but the cell next to it could be running at full brightness, whereas there would be a compromise with the darks or lights with a LCD.

Burnin and all that fun stuff aside, something else to consider is even though lcd can be a bit exxy to run (our 32 inch uses a max of 145 watts, same as a moderate pc at idle) a plasma is going to be 20-50% more costly to run at least.

We picked ours up for $750 from a harvey norman factory seconds outlet here in Sydney, mind you to buy at that price i went there on a really really quiet Tuesday and had to buy two of them (ours + the mother in laws). The brand we bought is "celestial" but a bit of poking around indicates it has a pretty decent panel inside it and it has a lot of inputs (3x hdmi, 3x rca, 1x svga, etc), but for $100 more each we could have picked up a nice Sony or LG one, unfortunately that was pushing the budget just a bit *too* much* to justify getting two of those.

I'm a plasma fan too but the best Plasma makers are now gone(Pioneer) the 2nd best are Panasonic but when these LCD Tv's with led backlighting get cheaper they are going to kill the plasma and normal LCD tv market.

During the initial run in period usually about 200hrs, run the Plasma on low brightness & contrast, if you stick to that you shouldn't have a problem with burn in.

I saw the new Samsung 8 Series LCD TV with LED yesterday at JB and watching the Melbourne Cup on it was absolutely amazing. :D

Thanks for the info guys.

The Samsung LED/LCD screens are eye-wateringly expensive, double the cost of an equivalent sized Plasma and a significant premium over LCD. Can't really justify $3500-4000 for a TV in any form though, LED and whiz-bang or not.

thks, Mick

Mate JB at the moment 50" Panasonic Viera 1080 under 2k, pick one up for around $1750 if you haggle. I got the 720 HD and it is one of the best pictures I have ever seen
Pair the 1080 up with the 1080 dvd hard drive recorder and you have yourself a top end set up for under 2.5k
My 2c anyway

As for burn-in factor... I have had my plasma for many many years (not even 1080 :p) and have on several occasions left the screen overnight with static images (like the screen when the prerecorded fox video finishes). I once got a small burn-in that after running the screen for a couple of hours the burn-in disappeared, it has never been visible whilst watching the tv.

Did I mention I love the Panasonic Viera's aswell

Alas I'm in Victoria, up near Woodend.

I ended up getting a 42" Panasonic G10-series Plasma: http://panasonic.com.au/products/detail ... ectID=5111

Really good picture, shits all over the old Toshiba, the kids love it. The thing that clinched it in the end was the a bonus offer of a twin-tuner full-HD 250Gb HDD DVD Recorder.

Thanks to everyone that took the time to respond :).
