Got the letter the other week from stay upright saying that i a can get my full licence as my 3 months is up
i am 18 yrs old and only hold my car L's....i looked on vic roads to see that my probationary licence has all the same restrictions as my L's and as i read it i cannot get a bigger bike and have these restrictions for 4 years
is this actually the case can any1 please clarify it for me?? i hope i got it wrong would hate to be stuck on a 250 for that long.
Peace......Means havin a bigger stick then the other guy.
from what i understand you cannot get a full license for the bike unless you have one for the car as well....so the earliest you can get a bigger bike is when you have done the 3 years on the p's
So what...? Im in the same situation as you, except I havent gotten my L's (going to get them after my year 12 exams). So when I do get my L's, im going to be on them for only 3 months then move onto P's? I've always thought it was 12 months on L's then P's.
Because how have your car L's, when you go for your bike P's, you have to do the written exam and a riding test. The written exam is the same for car and bike so you wont have to do it for your car P's. You will be on your P's for 3yrs but the bike restrictions (LAM bike and no pillion) will only last 12 months. The next 3yrs you still have to display P plates.
l have my full car when l got my P's so l didn't have to display P plates.
*edit; just read all the new crap they bought in and it only adds a year and different coloured plates

Its only 3 months for bike L's. You used to able get your L's at 17yrs, 9months then go for your P's at 18.
A person issued with a motorcycle licence for the first time will have the following restrictions placed on their licence for 12 months from the date the motorcycle licence is issued: (note that this is 12 months from the licence, ie Probationary, not permit ie Learners)
If your motorcycle licence was issued before 1 July 2008, you may ride any motorcycle not exceeding 260cc or any Learner approved motorcycle. If your motorcycle licence was issued on or after 1 July 2008 you may only ride any learner approved motorcycle.
you must not ride a motorcycle while carrying a pillion passenger (a motorcycle and sidecar is acceptable with a passenger)
you must have a zero blood alcohol concentration (BAC) when riding a motorcycle
So 3 months L plates, 12 months red P and 250/LAMS, then 3 years show a green P and 0 BAC.
But no restriction on capacity on the green Ps. My elder son is hanging out for a ZX750R in March, when he hits his green Ps.
L plates min 3 months max 12 months and do riders couse again + knowlage test
Red Ps 1 yr min 18 months max i think now if over 25 yrs old and have held full car licence for 5 yrs and never have been booked or lost licence you can go full open bike licence
Green Ps can carry pillion passenger for 2 yrs
I think they also changing BAC level to ZERO for anyone on bikes no matter what licence you have so ive heard
