Earmold at MotoGP expo
Everyt year when I go to the GP I look at the Earmold outlet in the Expo but always cop out when I see the $40+ price.
Does anyone here use them and if so how do they compare to the Chemist / Work earplugs in term so of noise reduction, are they comfortable, how long do they last and do they deteriorate over time.
I might just splash out this weekend.
Thanks,
TC

Re: Earmold at MotoGP expo
Got a set done for $90
, I have found that often one might go loose & becomes a huge distraction with the extra noise on one side.
They do fit well & my case might be isolated but I tend to use off the shelf ones more often these days.

Re: Earmold at MotoGP expo
Don't know about the $40, I thought they were over a $140, but I could be wrong ........ I switch off each time I hear big dollars

From what I hear they are supposed to be very good, but I can't justify the dollars.....

Re: Earmold at MotoGP expo
I bought a set at this year WSB for $70, they see to work ok, though I don't normally wear them on a bike, but I do use them on the rifle/pistol range and find that they work really well.
Cheers

Re: Earmold at MotoGP expo
i used to use disposable ones then splashed out for the earmolds. $60 spent nearly 2 years ago and they are still perfect. They sit in great, feel better then disposable ones and have greater noise reduction imo.
I use them on the road and the track and cant fault them. Money well spent for me.

I was the same as you, thought the money was way too much for what you get but when it cuts out quite a lot of the damaging noises, I bought the wired for sound ones, worth the dollars if you want to have some music or not you don't have to, a mate bought the plain ones and rates them and so do I, 100% on the disposable ones, for starters they're made for your ear and your ear only, disposable ones often don't sit probably if you don't put them in probably.
Anyway I think that they're worth the money

Re: Earmold at MotoGP expo
I love mine
I only wear them on longer rides (400km +), but I swear by them.
The disposable ones annoy me, but the moulded ones fit perfectly, never move, block wind noise and reduce other noises perfectly, are always the right shape and are easy to clean. If you're going for a long ride, with lots of fuel and regrouping stops, taking the disposable ones in and out all the time - they get pretty grubby or gross halfway through the day just from road dust and grime when they're out. If I've forgotten mine, I'll use the disposable ones, but I look at them more as a last resort, "better than nothing" option, rather than as another alternative method. That's how much better they are in my opinion.
I've had mine for about 5 years, and I reckon if I don't lose them, they'll last until I'm old enough to be a Ulysses member!

I'm definitely buying a pair this year, normally sort of $45 have baulked myself at that price but now my hearing is ratshit and even though it's ideally too late, i'll invest to save what's left

Re: Earmold at MotoGP expo
definately worth having i reckon.
i tried to make my own using a "kit" from USA and they turned out shit.
I bought mine from the GP 2 years ago and they are still perfect - although ive hardly used them for the past 12 months.
not so much noise on a pushy
i can never get the disposables to stay in properly.

Re: Earmold at MotoGP expo
thanks for the advice ... i reckon I'll get a set (depending on the dosh)
on a side note, went down with the cranbourne run today and came back around 3:30 - lots of bikes pulled in by marked and unmarked police bikes, cops with forms out and seemed to be intently checking the bikes (saw 3 separate groups pulled in around san remo). take it easy this weekend.
GO MARCO!!

Re: Earmold at MotoGP expo
Wow, for that sort of money you could buy yourself a set of Shure in ear noise cancelling earphones and cut the feed cable off!
I go the way of the Hoff, good quality disposable work earplugs, throw em away after every couple of rides and grab a new pair, even better they are very economical
Forgot em today though
