I'm interested in as many opinions as possible....
I'm shopping for a track bike (in case you haven't read one of my threads).
My dilema is whether I go for a ZX6, ZX7 or ZX9. I have approx $5k - $6k available.
I have owned in the past a ZX7 and thouroughly enjoyed every moment riding this.
I have also recently has an 05 ZX10, but enjoyed the 7 more.
I'm undecided whether to go for a 6, something I might be able to have more fun on, a 7 as I am quite familiar with these or a 9 for some more power. I am 6ft 3 and about 85 kg so I'm unsure whether a 6 would be too small....
As this will be my first track bike, I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.
Perhaps a rethink....

A late model (2005 onwards) 600 is lighter and has about the same HP as the old 7's did. Personally, I reckon you'd have more fun with a 6 than a 7 or a 9. It will handle better to start with and be more manageable when on the ragged edge.

Yep 6 all the way I reckon. They're a much newer bike, much lighter, more power and much nicer.

Re: Perhaps a rethink....
What ever you buy make sure someone else has spent the money doing the modifications you think you will want like suspension upgrades, race glass etc.
That is what I did.
If you are interested in a K5 GSXR750 with White Power rear shock. forks revalved and ohlins springs. Val moto rear sets. Race glass, two brothers muffler. I am selling one close to your budget
If not go the 6, buy the one with the best value and the lightest. I had a 97 ZX7R as a track bike and they are heavy boats, the 9 was much lighter. Awesome bike the 7 slightly underpowered but that meant you could give it everything on exit. Test road a 6 and they scream up high and light. Also thought the brakes were pretty good.

Re: Perhaps a rethink....
I've been doing a little shopping on Bikesales and there are plenty of ZX6's available under my budget.
My plan will now be to purchase a 6, approx 1998 or there abouts, and spend a little on face fairings, rearsets (now that I know what they are how they can help) and getting her ready for a track day.
This will probably happen in the next few weeks when I come into a little more coin, so I'll be sure to share my purchase with you all.
Thanks to those who lent their suggestions and reasoning behind it, I'm looking forward to taking my new toy to a KSRC track day to meet you all and learn from those who know better.
Many thanks!!

Re: Perhaps a rethink....
Just a quick one mate. Maybe look for a ready made tracky. You'll probably get a better deal. I recently looked at a repairable write off for $3k which just needed some bits and race glass and it was going to end up costing 5.5k to get it on the track.....just some fuel for thought

Thanks Glen, I have had a look at a few write offs, but I'm a little dubious about riding a bike that has been crashed to the extend its been removed from the road.....just me being over cautious perhaps.Glen wrote:Just a quick one mate. I guess also by buying a road bike that is straight, has a history and has been loved, I would feel more comfortable on this blasting around Phillip Island and the like.
Appreciate your point of view though.......
