Hey, how's it going?

Post by zxARGH-250 »

Howdy all,

I'm a newly (today actually) licensed rider with an equally newly acquired (Sunday) motorcycle. She's a 1992 ZXR-250C in a pearl blue with gold sprayed chassis and rims, with other mods (done by previous owner) such as shaved front indicators, which have been replaced with LED jobbies that insert into the intakes on the side fairings at the front. Sadly, she's a bit temperamental with her electrics at the moment (she won't even start) but hopefully these are just teething issues.

A little bit bike illiterate, but looking forward to learning all about them from the knowledgeable heads on the forum and, when she's up and running, as well as when i've got a few more hours under my belt, looking forward to riding with people in Syd.

Welcome to KSRC CT wave.gif
Hopefully you can get the new bike to play fair without too much hassle, the Grey imported bikes such as yours could have any type of history & by the sounds of the paint job on it there has been a bit of fettling on her. The boys at RB imports at Carringbah might be able to help with issues that may arise ;)

Thanks for all the warm welcomes, guys

I've only got the one pic so far; bought the bike at night so it was too dark to get any decent shots. Started fine that whole night and I got her home into the garage a-ok; then the next day, she wouldn't start without a jump from my friend's bike. Then on the inaugural ride, she lost power suddenly on the way home, requiring another jump. Battery issue perhaps? Is there an alternator in it like on cars?

The 2 day pre-learner was pretty good; did mine at rouse hill even though I live near hurstville because I didn't want to wait the 3 or 4 weeks i'd need at Botany; booked one week, was ready to go the next. Had done a little riding on a friend's 125r, so the adjustment to the CB250 took some getting used to. All in all, it was very good and I learned a lot. The actual DKT test at the RTA though was easy as hell; I aced it in 7 minutes, lol.

Sounds like a stator has failed??? Likely that the previous owner has charged the battery up with a charger just prior to you test riding it. It had enough charge to fire it up and run it on the way home, but after that it has depleted the charge in the battery and then failed to fire the spark plugs once jump started. Get a meter onto your battery while it's running and check the charge rate.
