So i got me a little project......

Post by myk1979 »

I picked myself up my very first project bike yesterday.........95 model ZX9R :D
The story goes: The bike was stolen and then recovered by police. Recovery was made easy when the theif tried to race away from the cops and in doing so, threw the bike down the road :?
Most of the damage is mainly cosmetic as you can see in the pics, the fairings are.....well.....buggered! Frame and forks look fine and it appears that neither the frame or engine came into contact with the road! As you can see it was left to sit out in the weather for a couple of months but i think, with a bit of effort it could clean up into a pretty sweet ride! And at a cost of $500 i simply couldn't say no!!!

Got talking to a security guard at one of the buildings i work at in the city and he mentioned that he had a 900 if i wanted it. He restores old cars and was going to have a go at the bike as a little side project but can't find the time. He basically just wanted it to go to someone he knew would fix it up and enjoy it, and i will :D
Came with all the paperwork and what not. He's a nice old bloke and i get along with him pretty well, he even wrote up a list for me with all the bits and pieces i need to get it roadworthy.

Excellent find!! especially at $500, even if you buy all new fairings and anything else thats needed, you'll still come out totally in front!

My thoughts exactly! Not 100% sure on which way i'll go with it yet, originally i was thinking i'd just get it back to original but then my mates thinking street fighter and i've been considering tracky. I'll concentrate on getting it rideable for now and decide which way i'll go after that.

Mate great find, if you decide to fix it back up to orginal, consider the pre painted chinese fairings a friend of mine brother in law bought some for his zx9 turned a 98 into 01 for the money they are pretty good only needed minimal work to get them to fit properly as well. I think at the time they cost him about $800 dollars landed here, that was about 4 months ago.

Thanks for the tip mate, i'll look into them when/if the time comes.

Can anybody tell me if the 95 and 98 models are interchangable parts wise?

I stripped all the fairings off (what was left of them) yesterday, picked up some levers and a new battery today and fit them. After a bit of cranking she started with a cough and splutter and ran as well as could be expected for a bike thats been sitting around for a few months :D I don't think i've ever been so excited over a rough running engine before!

I think i'm really going to enjoy building this thing!
