Baskerville Trackday 1/11/08

Post by Saki »

Hey guys.

Well yesterday we had another track day. Was a good chance to stretch the legs on the Z and clean out any cob webs! It was just me and a mate on his R1 for the day but we both had an absolute blast. I have put straight bars on the Z since i have bought it and was the first time out trying out those bars. I must say overall top half of my body isnt sore, but fark me my legs are in a bit of a pain! But all good!

For a good part of the morning it was only us 2 and a bright yellow RX7, but they had so many mechanically failures we ended up having 40 minute sessions only to come in because we were getting slightly fatigued.
A few more bikes ended up showing up after lunch, so out on the field was 08 R6, 06 CBR600, 02 R6, 01 GSXR750, mates 06 R1 and me 03 Z1000.

I must say for my own riding, i had learnt alot and got quicker and quicker. I had to steak the suspension many times, but came to a setting which i felt happy with. I didnt end up getting timed, but i timed the R1 and he ended up doing a 1:07.4, fastest time on Baskerville is set by Jim Richards in a Porsche GT3 with a time of 56.x so he was quite pleased with his efforts.
Down the backstraight he was clocking a bit over 240km/h, i was hitting 200km/h.

It was a fun day and good to get some extra experience in for the next club day which is November 16. So anyone in Tassie interested in coming to Baskerville, make sure you come.
Otherwise will see you at Symmons Plain on November 30!

(Couldnt get any action shots in, cause no one had either enough skill to use a camera to take good shot or no one was available all out on the track!)

I wish QR was like that sometimes :D

What is B'ville like to ride? I have seen some vision of the track on Speedweek but that was of the Porsches. I have heard that trackdays in Tas are fairly cheap too

IMO i really dont like Basky, the reason its no good and hard for bikes to set a quicker time is because they had truck racing on there at some stage and its completely rooted the track, there is divets and bumps and shit. Plus there is sections they have resurfaced the track but its uneven so there is many corners the bike will become unsettled. Like your rear tyre will slip from the higher point on the road to the lower.

Plus there its very hilly, like your basically racing just up sections then down, where as symmons is flat. Plus some of the corners are a bit unsettling, the cork screw is down hill with an outwards tipping camber, there is a corner which begins on a crest of a hill after a fast straight, there is a downhill corner just before the big long straight which has a huge ripples strip and on the outer edge a bank so if cars hit it they can use the bank to launch off, but if bikes hit it they high side!

I love the bottom sweeper tho, its flat, its smooth and its hell fast plus you create a huge noise when yer going through teh starting grid so everyone smiles and cheers!

I guess its all we have down in the south of Tassie (there is symmons up north) so we gotta settle for that.
Yeah because we are memebers of SRCT which is part of Motorcycling Australia, we get the track day for $60, which is pretty good considering all the cars and bikes just sort themselves out, but its good, we usually take longer turns in driving/riding, but gives us a longer break also!

We did about 6 hours riding yesterday and i was farked by the end of it!

Yeah it was hell fun, Z1000 with the straight bars was great. I had a few laps on the R1 but i was having more fun on the Z!
Only problem was, it needs PC3 pretty badly, cause i have taken the baffles out of the yoshi's so its a bit to rich and i was getting beaten under power by 600's! LOL, but through those corners look out
