help with Melbourne bike shops
Hey guys,
Well i make the big adventure (not really that big) across the Bass to the big island to pick up my new bike on Saturday. It will be rego'd Monday when vicroads are open, which means i will be in Vic till maybe wed or thursday! then boat back home.
I will be going over with my Helmet and Jacket, and i am in the process of now wanting a new pair of leather pants, but i had the bright idea of maybe getting something whilst over there so i dont need to fly over on the plane with all that extra gear, but rather buy it there and ride back with it on!
I will be in Eltham but will have a rego'd bike and i want to get out and about so i dont mind if i have to travel, get to see melbourne a bit better, but i wanted to know of any good Bike shops to check out for gear or places that have good service, range and prices!
I want to get some Alpinestars or Joe Rockets something bit up market! So any help will be great!
Thanks guys!

head to Ringwood first. Bikemart, Peter Stevens, A1, Metro Honda, 1300 Kawasaki, Clipstone Yamaha are all there together. I like Bikemart but PS has dainese and alpinestars. Fairly close to Eltham.

Check out Tiger Angel in North Melbourne.
You'll find the exact address on the web easy enough.

Re: help with Melbourne bike shops
Damn it - I live 10 minutes away, but I'm working! It's a cliche, but... Eltham to Warrandyte, left at the roundabout over the bridge, right at the next roundabout to Christmas Hills and Kinglake; turn right on Christmas Hills to Yarra Glen, then to Healesville and up to Toolangi, and across to Kinglake, then down to St Andrews, Diamond Creek and back to Eltham. Not wanting to sound like a wimp, but the St Andrews to Kinglake road can be lethal (literally); mums in 4WDs late to pick up kids from school, driving down the wrong side of the road...dilligaf wrote:Good rides from Eltham. "mums in 4WDs late to pick up kids from school, driving down the wrong side of the road..."
Ok they all sound like good roads. Well my uncle has lived in a few places around Eltham, but i dont remember it too well at all!
They sound good thought i am gunna keep an eye out for those places! Plus i got iphone with google maps and melburne has 3G so shouldnt have to may problems!
Any other bike shops worth going to ? doesnt have to be in the area i want to ride around the place!

Re: help with Melbourne bike shops
Hi Saki
You don't have to worry about citylink or any tolls in the city area.Bikes don't have to pay tolls on Citylink. The only road that bikes pay tolls in Victoria is the new Eastern link. The Eastern toll road starts out Ringwood way and goes through to Frankston. So if you avoid that road you won't have a problem. If you did travel on it I think that you have 48 hours to ring up and buy a day pass which is only a few dollars.
There are heaps of roads not far from Eltham that are good to ride on.Your best bet would be to start at Healesville and ride across to Kinglake and the surrounding areas like Dave said.
I might be able to get out on the bike for a few hours during the week.Let me know if you want to meet somewhere after you pick up your bike.
Cheers
Peter

Re: help with Melbourne bike shops
some people do part of daves ride backwards as a warm up to the spurs. black spur starts at healesville, turn off to marysville then past lake mountain to reefton spur and back through warburton.
out to Noojee is also a good ride.
PS A rider was killed on the st andrews-kinglake rd on sunday. Take it easy the first time.
