So Shifty couldn't sell his bike ...

Post by Daisy »

and we can't buy one. The world is full of wankers.
Yesterday I spotted a '95 ZZR600 on the side of the road with a For Sale sign on it. We stopped, rang the number and got the seller to come and sell it to us. Too easy you might think?
Its out of rego, needs tyres and has a slipping clutch - as well as a couple of minor cosmetic issues, but we agreed on his asking price of 2K. He says he's only selling it because he needs the money - girlfriend just lost her job ... blah blah blah. Yeah fine kid. We'll take it. We were going to pick it up tonight, but this morning he rang and said he's decided to sell it to his old man - so he can buy it back later. Little prick. I think the only thing worse than a buyer mucking you about is a seller who can't think of a decent euphemism for 'I got a better offer'.

Bugger! To be honest though, buying a bike from someone that has no money and has clearly not maintained it is asking for problems... you probably did well not to end up with it as it's probably never seen an oil change in its life.

As for my situation... a few years down the track I'll be able to afford a newish roadbike, newish road/trail, and a trackbike.. but at the moment I have enough money tied up in the 12R that I could tick at least two of those three boxes without much trouble... and given that I'm paying $110/month insurance on a bike I'm too scared to ride anywhere interesting (good behaviour license - 1 point to burn for a whole year) it just seems a bit backwards.

Nuffin wrong with a 12R, I struggle to think of anything that would be better.

Actually, I know the bike. It has been knocked around a bit recently, but I still think it is worth 2. That's what I paid for mine in about the same condition - apart from the clutch. We paid more for the D model we got for HM and that needed all of the above, plus wheel bearings, the fuel tank leaked ...

I was at the wreckers this morning and he told me the kid had tried to sell the bike there.

Nah, the bike would be fine - nothing a couple of smartypantses like us couldn't fix. :D

The seller however ... should be severely beaten about the head and upper body with a large book on etiquette.
