I'm pretty sure the truck was turning left into Cleveland st from Sth Dowling st, I'm 90% sure it's the same incident i drove past a while ago. Police were already on the scene by that stage. I just remember seeing a bike down on the side of the road.Jeebz10R wrote:Not disputing the fact that trucks can effect a turn using two lanes, thats a given. as for trucks not being aware they have hit someone/thing. dont be suprised, a local family friend here had some chick run under his back wheels while he was parked at the lights, and stuff her head under the duallies. when he took off POP! he was oblivious to it, and it took someone frantically waving him down for him to finally pull over.
she'd been hanging around for days trying to commit suicide I was told.
Think about how quiet some of the bikes are that are getting around, and how loud it is in the old cabins, or sound deadened it is in the new ones.
you'd hardly hear them bounce off the bullbar, let alone the back wheels. BUT some of these a-holes dont even look in their mirrors to see how close they are when they turn, they presume everyone has the right state of mind to back off and let the truck turn across both lanes (as I always do anyway). Then you get these asswipes (not only in cars) who think just because you over took them, its their god given right to sit right up your ass. I'v had a few trucks do that to me on the way to work and all I picture in my head is that vid of the truck hitting the brakes with that moto rider under his wheels. might have to have a squirty sauce bottle with brake fluid in it so can spray it over my shoulder and teach em a lesson
Dog trailers should be outlawed. I'v seen one come loose and fly off into a paddock, and a driver at my old work saw one on the gateway come off and go straight across oncoming traffic with a full load of sand... I dunno just the ones I'v seen are always all over the place, not uncommon to swing from guidepost to over the center line on our roads.
then again, I'v seen some dodgy stuff getting around in regards to trucks. ever had a chain swing past your face from the side of a truck! not to mention some of these things wouldnt pass a roadworthy in afghanistan.

Wish I would have seen this. No matter what we do there are dangers on the road. I haven't read this whole thread, so excuse me if I missed this....
it surprised me that the bike wasn't gone by the time the truck even started?? Maybe traffic in front of him? If that's the situation, it brings the whole lane splitting debate up again.
Sad to hear... condolances to his family

To avoid confusion the comlbination on the show was a truck trailer from Chemtrans, not what I would consider a dog trailer for sand etc it was similar to this:

hmmm then that does beg the question, how on earth did he get hit. the truck coulda been halfway round that corner and old mate on the bike could have zipped up and inside him, maybe something as simple as he stalled it and the trailer wheels got him as they probably would have nearly been on the gutter.
damn.. theres someting to keep in the back of your head at all times.

Re: ANYONE WATCH CRASH INVESTIGATION LAST NIGHT?
The re-enactment shows them hitting the corner at roughly the same time & the bike gets clipped on the arse end forcing the rider to fall towards the trailer, I think the underlying fact is that if the front indicator on the truck was working the rider might have had time to react but because of the sheer size & the fact that it has closed in on the unsuspecting rider there might have been no chance anyway.... we will never really know
