Well it's new, but not a Kwaka!

Post by Benno »

As some of you know, I managed to scam a great deal on a new 2008 R1. Picked it up tonight (Just in time for the long weekend!) and rode it home in this crappy Melb weather. (It's REALLY muggy here at the moment.)

Some comparisons to the 10:

You can definitely tell that this gear box doesn't have the closer ratio. The 10 feels like it has shitloads more grunt via the bum dyno, but the R1 is effortless to 100 and beyond. You don't realise you're going that quick till you glance down. The 10 also seems more responsive on the throttle, although that could be because the R1 is new.

Suspension feels heaps better on the R1. Gives me a more "agile" feeling than the 10 @ 100km's, where as the 10 felt a lot more stable. Both bikes suffer from the old heat on the legs, but the R1 is worse in this regard I think. Also comes standard with Pilot Powers, and OH MY GOD do they shit on the crappy dunflops I had on the 10 for commuting! Once I'd warmed them up, and managed to remove the wax residue crap, it stuck like shit to a blanket.

I enjoy the sitting position on the R1, and feel more comfortable on it that I did on my 10. Mirror height is higher also, so you don't need to lift your arms and do the chicken dance to see who's up your date. Overall, I'd say a definite improvement on the 10. But I spose 3 years of R&D will do that.

Just for the record, I like you guys too much to nick off and join another forum! See you at PI WSB!

First and probably only mods will be:

Pipes
Fender Eliminator
Will purchase a Ventura Rack and bag once I have a bit of a shop around

Here's the pics, let the flames begin!

haha, thank's hoff! It's a 2008, plated 01/08. It doesn't matter what I ride, that barge of yours wouldn't keep up anyways. :P

I heard 12's have a worse midrange than a 10!

Didn't you get my PM about tyre pressures mate? I'm interested to see what I need to run compared to the barge  Surely you don't seriously think your 12 with the god awful midrange could actually keep up? Now, if you rode a 9 on the other hand...

Thanks Rob, the chair is actually left over from a bbq we had here. I actually was out till about 12.30 last night "running" it in!

Youll need more than correct tyre pressures to keep up on that hunk of junk ! :D

All joking aside, it is seriously a well put together bike. You're welcome to have a ride hoff if you turn up to WSB's.

My 10 definitely felt like it had more grunt than this, however it did have a 16 tooth front on it, plus pipes etc.
