Only the colour changed between a J1 ('00) and a J2 ('01) zx6r. Both great bikes. If you can stretch to it, the '02 zx636 is even better - it's the same chassis but with a carbied 636 engine.

03-04 for the ZX6.
never for the 9
03 for a Z1000 (current shape)
or like 1970 or something for the old Z's

It depend son what you're after. For a road-biased bike the '02 is probably the pick of the bunch. The '05-'06 is a cracker - it handles like it's on rails, makes a bunch of horsepower, etc, but isn't as comfortable as the '02. It's horses for courses, of course, but I like the ones. Oh, and the graphics on the '02 636 are only matched (never bettered!) by those on the '03 zx7r.red_dave wrote:Seriously, if you can, go the 03 onwards...

Teh 01 and 02 can be had very cheap - thats why i am leaning towards this!
Also i believe these are more comfortable than the 04 models, for those of us who have "big bones" LOL!

Well, my big bone is more comfortable on the 06 than it ever was on the 02 or 04 636's...Neo_nick wrote:Teh 01 and 02 can be had very cheap - thats why i am leaning towards this!

Mate, you'll love the J series 6. Just under a 100hp at the rear wheel, a comfortable seating position that'll let you see the best part of a 1000km's in a day without being toooo sore, and, at the end of the ride your nuts will be where they started out, not belted most of the way into your arseNeo_nick wrote:Teh 01 and 02 can be had very cheap - thats why i am leaning towards this!

Alternately, if you're truly big-boned, you might like to think about a zx9r - you've gotta love the 9

Re: 00 Vs 01 Kawasaki ZX6R
I've ridden a crim. It's not as good a road bike as the 9 in my opinion. Left my back in agony. Bitta fun, but. Magic engine.
Have you ridden a sorted 9??

The question is, have you ridden a sorted 10?
The 9 is a great bike. If I had to commute on it, then I'd be buying one!

Re: 00 Vs 01 Kawasaki ZX6R
From my limited experience both the older 6's and 9's are comfortable bikes (well compared to the zx7r).
For my own curiosity, the J1 and J2 were colour scheme only changes, which ones were which? Were the blue ones the J1 or J2 series?
