possible new toy for the track

Post by z900/zx9 »

Hey guys i am going to look at a 96 zx6 tommorow it has 90,000 on it but he has reciepts for servicing etc.He said it also is a bit sloppy in the rear suspension ,and could need some servicing of the front .With that in mind what do you think would be a good price ???.And is there anything besides the obvious that i should look out for :D

You may not want to run it up to redline too often with 90k on the odo!! I reckon you have to bank on a $3000-$3500 engine rebuild before it hits the track, plus either replacement or at least servicing of the suspenders. Then you have little items like bearings and bushes and discs. I assume it's still in road trim, which means that it needs glass which is 800 minimum with a mudgaurd and a screen. Personally Mal, I reckon it's worth about $500. It's gunna cost a fortune to get it sorted mate. I would look for a complete set up bike of some sort. It's far cheaper usually. :)

Its still registed but it has fibreglass fairings,Needs 2 tyres and roadworthy.Hes saying low $2,000.So you reckon its not worth it ?.And at 90,000 it wont cop much abuse before it goes bang.

I think Strika's right mate, Im sure the bike is worth all of 2 or 3 grand as a decent road bike, but for a track bike you would need to throw too much money into it. The suspension will be rooted, and the engine may not last long once you start belting it around a track.

There are heaps of track ready bikes on ebay and formula extreme website for under 5k if you look around.

Keep your eye out for the Hartwell MCC and Preston MCC clubs newsletters for bikes Mal. Dunno bout Hartwell, but Preston have a website http://www.prestonmcc.com.au" target="_blank which may turn up something.
