Plastic welders...?

Post by ninjaboy »

After my fall out with Turn 7 of Eastern Creek, I am in need of some technical advice regarding plastic welding as my front frame has seen better days...

But wait, there's more...

I thought about using those metal fillers since you can use them on plastics/fibreglass as well, but they wouldnt have any bonding properties would they...?

So any plastic welders out there???

Help!

mate
unless you know plastics and have access to a soldering iron and a rod
of the particular polymer involved...don't bother
get some Plastex... the bike shops use it to repair fairings and sell it...
great stuff even comes with its own moulding tools...
try....
http://plastex.home.att.net/
or ask a shop... I know my local Kwaka dealer sells it....

cheers

I'd go Ians way less chance of farking it up.
You start putting a hot air welding gun on you plastic's and you could end up melting and warping things worse than when you started

http://www.plastex.net.au/index.html is the Oz distributor - ring him up and he can tell you who in your area sells it. I did exactly that just last week and found that Newcastle Kawasaki is my local reseller...

Nah, i just figured I might fuck it up, so I had it delivered to a professional welder - the job is going to set me back $200 inclduing the R side fairing (without painting).

Yeah, apparently its the cheapest and best quality weld I'll get. The guy is excellent, and I've seen his work before (i'll get some pic's).

Other than that, I'm thinking of painting the bike myself with possibly silver/chrome flames...hmm...

And Silver/chrome handle sliders to match...hehehehe  bling bling!!

Sweet, I'll get the fairings back tomorrow...but couldnt afford the extra for the paint, so seeing if a mate of mine (in the Autowroks trade) can colour match & spray for, thats right! - free!! Will let u know how it goes.
