Kawasaki prices for spares are ridiculous,& RR mechanic

Freakin at it again,

OK latest saga, getting in today in the traffic, first time really after the service, its getting really hot about a block from work, second last bar on the console one and the thermos haven't kicked in.... notice this, then it goes up to red and it starts blinking, turned the bike off immediately, then when the traffic was clear started it and let the wind run through the radiator, get it back down a bar and luckily got to work and shut it down to cool it down.

couldn't see any visible wires coming off but haven't had a good look yet, hopefully the engine is till ok, will take it apart tonight. should be fine on the way home due to being freeway driving and enough air going though the radiator.


next item on the agenda today is to ring race replica to get a price on diaphragms, knew it was going to be expensive and hardly worth my time. but rang anyway.
220 per diaphragm!

she said she could do all four for 750... but that aint going to happen in the near future. need to find some after market ones.

It would have been cheaper to buy a new motor than play with this one if id paid retail for everything.

400 for the float valves (got the sets of ebay for 100), and now 880 for the diaphragms.

wrecker wants 50 bux each. i can believe a serviceable item costs so much! will have to rip mine out and check how much life they have left in them as changing them for second hand ones may not be any better.

how can a few small consumables cost so much? a bit of brass for 100 bux and rubber diaphragms 220? common whats the build cost 2 bux?
make it 5 bux with shipping labor etc.

USA. have a look at http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com/. (there service and communication is crap but good site and prices)find the parts you need and get prices, they are apprently pretty cheap. The contact these guys http://www.sumofallparts.net/ (will get what you need, match prices and good communication) and see if they can get it and send it over. Hope this helps and saves you some coin.

There is a pommie mob that does diaphragms. Gonna get some for the Keihins in GT550 #2.
About $270 a set landed vs $670 or so from Kawasaki.

I'll will chase them up and see what i can find. next item on the agenda is to see why the damn thermo isn't working anymore.

when i connect the battery direcly to it it runs so it must have something to do with the thermo switch in the head.

Most likely there is a loose/disconnected wire to your fan or Temp sensor/switch. You may need to remove bodywork to find it.

Used to work in a bike shop back in Cairns, we had to replace diaphragms on Suzuki Across 250, they were $200 ea in 1996 for a 4cyl/250

Well i got to have yet another taste of Kwaka Aust absolutely ridiculous parts pricing.

I needed a new Temp sender unit for my 96 zx6r as the one that was in it was for a dodgey digital gauge that only went to 99 degrees, which is useless as a flyscreen door on a submarine. So i gave the Good folk at Team Moto Kwaka Parramatta a call and asked the question. The guy didnt even look, just said straight that they dont stock them, and it would be around the $75 mark. I just laughed at him. $75 for a part that is worth $5. And i know there only worth that because i work in the parts industry. I gave him a few polite words about being ripoff merchants, saying that i know its not his fault, but do they not realise they lose more business this way. So i called Kellen Kwaka out at Penriff. He checked, and asked and checked again, then said its at the Kwaka warehouse, its only $50, and he would need a deposit before he ordered it. So i laughed at him too, but atleast told him he was cheaper than Team Motor, and wouldnt be wasting anymore of his time.

So i went and found something on the shelf that looks like it will fit and i'll try that.

With Pricing like that, its no wonder Kawasaki aren't as wide spread and popular as others. It lucky i like the bikes they make.

A rear brake light switch for a 2002 ZX9R costs all of $24.

Bars cost $50ish each.

Barends $36 for the whole assembly.

Plastic covers for the inner fairing $55 each.


For the Honda 500 V4:

Mirrors $85 each (None left in Aus OR Japan according to Soichiro)

Carb kits (needle/seat, gasket, diaphragms, NOT floats or jets) over $300 ea.

Output shaft seal - $24 (replacement from CBC $4)

Front brake master cylinder rebuild kit - $90ish (pretty much just o-rings)

Dash lenses - $120

I don't think the bike manufacturer matters.
