My advice for regaining confidence after an incident would be to get out with somebody experienced and patient and do a carpark session.

Work on super-slow tight circles and figure eights, emergency braking and swerving, weaving back and forth. Spend time making sure you've got the proper technique happening.

If you have the cash, do an advanced or intermediate rider training course where experienced instructors can show you where your technique needs a tweak.

Either way, that's the best way I know to get your confidence back. I try to do one every month or two with learner buddies. It helps me as much as it helps them, and gives you heaps more options in traffic.

Took me 4 months to get back on mine, mind you I have a thumb that doesnt bend properly so yeah, but like everyone has said do a few short trips. Once your back on, you will realise what you have been missing, good luck.

HTFU... yah right

You all know that confidence is a critical piece of the puzzle as to why we continue riding bikes, and the casual htfu's do JACK SHIT to help someone get it back after being subjected to a trip to hospital because of anothers uncaring attitude towards basic safe motoring.

Yeah ok HTFU works when we ourselves fuck it sideways and go tar surfing, this is not the case, this person was PUT DOWN, geddit?

And please spare me the bullshit, it would be a safe bet to say that among this fraternity i would rank right near the top for being seriously mangled after an accident, dont beleive me, come over and ill show you the scars that make me sick everytime i see them, then ill show you the xrays that will make you sick.

In answer to how do you get it back, dont ask us, youre the only one who can answer that, I spent 4 years getting violently ill everytime i looked at a bike, but thats ok coz a year of that was in a wheelchair.

Then one day, on the way home from work....i rode past Parramatta Kawasaki, and stopped, and walked out 2 hours later owning a brand new 04 10.

Wifes only comment to my "ive done something you might not like" phone call was:

"What colour is it?" and "im surprised it took you this long dickhead"
(not real big on sympathy my missus, but hey she had to push my fat arse around so I cop it sweet)

Decide if you want to get back on,if you do, then do it, take it slow and easy and try not to concentrate on everything that could go wrong, try to remember why you started riding in the first place, after that, everything eventually falls into place.

All the rest is bullshit, good luck

Some may call me insensitive but Track day

Hey at least all the bikes are traveling in the same direction at these and theres no cars.

Agghhh its abugger when your bike gets broken and you loose some skin but hop back on and ride it too the shops and you will feel better in time. :D
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

I did wonder where you'd gone to.

Sorry to hear of your stack, try and get someone understanding to ride shotgun for you, even if its only around the block.

Your Young the injuries will heal quickly and all people remember the good times and that addiction to the free spaces, winding roads, group outings, fun, exhilaration, and being "one with the bike" will drive the determination in you you have made the first step in the recovery by posting among your friends here :D
