umm yea this is what importing IS.ozx6r wrote:this is common place at all import places they need to put a complaince plate for the year is bought into austjewjew wrote:this is only hearsay, they may import models from overseas and give them a current compliance plate. be careful
They bring in a bike which has had say 20,000km ringed out of its little neck... then they put new brake pads, tyres, full service & sometimes paint it up, whack a new compliance plate on it then sell it for $5k more than its worth..and L/P platers pay it... they think there getting a 2006 bike..when there really getting a 1994 bike, thats been thrashed, then sat on a boat for 3 months, then sat in a warehouse for 5 yrs....
personally..not my thing...

This is where the problem really lies. They buy these often very dodgy bikes at a ridiculous price, then when the outgrow, wear out, or just get sick of the bike, they have to try to get some of their money back. That keeps the price artificially high. For instance, we just bought a 92 ZZR 600 for less than you can buy most 250s.Neka79 wrote:whack a new compliance plate on it then sell it for $5k more than its worth..and L/P platers pay it... they think there getting a 2006 bike..
They should be forced to tell prospective buyers EXACTLY what they are buying - or if thats too hard they should be forced to ACTUALLY repair/replace all the stuff they claim they have. It only cost 2 grand to do that to my bike.

one of my nephews bought a zx2r from the said establishment
[didnt think about askin uncle problemchild for advice
]got his cheaparse helmet & gloves with it,cant remember how much he paid for it but way too much.the bike itself seams to be a goodun but that could be a 1 off
,the hardest thing is gettin the bastards over rego inspection.things like tires that dont have aust adr
, then all the import & compliance checks etc, which didnt cost any more money but a half day wasted
.all in all i would say try to source one that has already been rego d in aust.all the best & good luck.

i put up a post recently looking for a 250 for a mate and got an overwhelming response, i think with a little effort u will find wat u r after, anyway i told him there where so many on offer, but NO, he refused and basically told me after i had found him a few 250's that he had put his deposit down on his 250 from that bike import place, can't remeber wat its called!!!!!!!! but u know the one!
i think he said roughly $6k for a black ZX2R A model, i told him there are cheaper ones out there in better nick but spose you can take a horse to water!

id always buy an Aus Delivered bike anyway- cbr250 HAD a few years worth of Aus Delivered, but its not a great learner bike neway.... if it were my freind/partner id be pushing for a
zzr250 (top learner)
gpx250 (see above)
250 zeal (ugly as sin, but itll do)
250 across (aus del)
BUT...this goes for u PINKY...we now have LAMS in SA, so u can go buy a BRAND NEW Hyosung Comet 650cc v twin (restricted model) with 2 yr (i think) warranty... for abt $7-8k...the same kinda money ud pay for a import 250cc!!
THEN WHEN UR LICENCE IS NICER, U TAKE IT TO A DEALER, CHANGE THE CARBS & THE CAN AND GO FROM 38HP TO 80HP...bingo..INSTANT BIG BIKE
