It sure does, south of France is very dry in summer and what they classify as very hot (mid-30's) - my uncle's holiday house in Nice is not far from the beach yet you'd swear you're in country victoria in summer...

looks like a bloody nice road, for them to ride at that clip it must be pretty smooth.. but a few bad moves like going into some corners too hot and onto the wrong side into potentially oncoming traffic.. probably lucky the guy crashed where he did rather than head on into a car.
