Nylon Brigade Pushbike in National park

Post by Paulie »

Hey all, I just went for a thrash through galston gorge and then aspired to thrash throungh Bobbin Head National Park but had to go slow because there were so many cyclist on pushbikes in there taking up the whole road so I had to take it real slow on the bends so I wouldnt smack into one on the blind bends... kinda ruined the experience. Has anyone here ever hit a cyclist whilst riding? I saw One cyclist almost get taken out by a dude in a Jeep the jeep shat himself and swerved over to MY side of the road...

Anyways, hope everyone is out there making the best of this wonderful sunny saturday morning!

Try Nasho just ask Phil (he will reply soon i think) Nasho they hear you coming as you aproach the bend then pull out infront of you, like they need the whole road  One of these days one of them will get hit and then the story will get turned around.

Most of the pushies on the old road are actually quite good. They tend to stay out of your way, and often move over when they hear you coming. I've even had one give me the 'cops ahead' signal.

There's always a few idiots of course - I hate coming around a corner and seeing them 4 deep, taking up the whole lane. It's only a matter of time before something nasty happens in this situation.

Generally though, on the old road at least, I find that the relative number of idiot motorbike riders is much higher than the relative number of idiot pushie riders.

And they have great arses

ok i come from a cycling background and im not sure what its like down there but i do know what its like being on the other side of the fence...
pushbikes are alowed to ride 2 abreast (by law) 4 is just stupidity on their befalf and if u find they are riding sllightly off the gutter this may be because the rd surface is bad or dirty reason for this is the tyres that we ride on are in total 25 (max) milimeters they are maybe 5mm think.
a tube cost $10 so for every puncher it cost $10 and if the tyre is damaged tyres cost anywhere from $30-120
the next question is y do we ride on the rd not the foot path well most rides that a competive cyclist will do would be at 80km sometimes up tp 250km in 1 day there isnt enough footpath/ bike tracks around and they dont always go where u want to go.
ohh forgot to say their bikes cost as much as most 3-4 year old motor bikes

i hope this has shed some light on y clyist do what they do

i had a bit of a screaming match with one dude on the old pac hwy, he was riding in the middle if the lane down the hill coz he thought he was faster than the cars.
i just held my horn untill he went crzy, and wanted to argue, so i slowed till he then went to overtake me around the outside, then he finds himself on the wrong side of the road
then he kinda realised i was pissed off.
seem him twice since too :D
wasnt in my way but.

if they pay rego than good on em, untill then they can move outta my way, or share the road with me. if you ride 2 wide with enough room for me to get between,
LOOK out! coz i'll be in that gap like a cut cat.

when they have to pay rego, green slips. i'll give them some respect, untill then, they can piss orf...

any idea what 60-70kph feels like on a pushy? reckon you'd be keen to sit closer to the edge where the road surface tends to be shithouse and theres all kinds of nasty bits to give you punctures that might send you hurtling down the hill using your face for brakes?

i dont know the situation well enuff to say you might have been a tad hasty in getting the shits up with him. but try taking a peek at it from his point of view (just like we'd like the average cager to do the same with us). take a step backand think if being 30 seconds later getting somewhere is worth potentially harming someone that really wasn't doing anything wrong.

so little johnnie should be asking santa for rego, a roadworthy and a licence test with his new bike should he?

i used to ride a pushie to school in year 12, i do knwo what 85km/h feels like on a pushbike,
he wasnt goign that fast, he was swerving side to side taking a full race line of the entire lane, even venturing onto the wrong side "straightlining" s-bends.

little jonnie doesnt ride on the highways.
if he is then yes he should.

little johnny should be on the bike paths and footpaths. untill he's old enough to be on the roads.

they do pay rego if they are a competing cyclist and this is on the increse every year because of the insurance associated with the licence its now up around the $300 mark and thi still doesnt garuntee their saftey with impatient ppl.

It's like evrything I guess, most of them are fine and there's a few dickheads.

On saturday morning on the OPH there were a few pushie riders and all of them pulled over into single file to let me past. A couple of things I did though. As I approached I backed off as soon as I saw them, noticeably geared down with a big rev as I dropped back a gear (so they heard me doing it), went past them on my side of the road but leaving a big gap, went past them slowly and finally gave them a wave after I got through, I then accelerated fairly hard so again they knew I'd backed off for them.

I have however struck some right dickheads up there though who do nothing to protect themselves by staying two abreast when they clearly know you're behind them. Yes, they're allowed to do it but it's just stupid when they know you're there.
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.
