Just watched 20-1 Best Aussie Movies on Channel Eddie - I guessed MM1 would rate in Top 10, probably about 8th.

It rocked in at #5.

Very happy with that result. Except for Bill "I Truly Am A Dickhead" Collins, he was not happy with the violence and brutality. Whats his problem ? It was fine, and in total context with the storyline. Wake up and smell the roses Bill... Everyone else who commented, absolutely loved it, and who can blame them.

what a fantastic movie - I went to see this at the flicks when I was about 14 or `15, with a mate, we didn't quite know what to expect, WOW did it scare the shit out of us.....

its a bit dated now of course, but heh, hands up anyone who ever wanted a VW like the *star* of the movie ?????

If anyone hasn't seen it, grab a rental and check it out. Great movie.

Sorry I didn't see the show but, I would struggle to name 10 let alone 50 great Aussie movies, does it count if they were made in Aus by yanks or were they purely Aus movies? Cos our animated movie makers are world renowned. Could be wrong but wasn't Nemo made here?

MM are still the first movies most ppl think of, I'm struggling to think of any other greats besides Gallipolli?

Although not a GREAT but I did enjoy "two hands" ithink it was called with Bryan Brown and Heath Bloke...

Wolf Creek made it at #19, I still haven't seen this yet, apparently Quentin Tarrantino reckons it is *the* scariest movie he has ever seen.....

so I can say there are lots more....
the Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith, the Devils playground, a Cry in the Dark (the Azaria Chamberlain story) are some I would recommend
(I worked with fred Schepisi)
I also did work for the Burrowes film group who made the 'Man from Snowy river' films
also recommended..'Newsfront and ' My brilliant Career'
and Romeo and Juliet by Baz Luhrmann also rates a guernsey

Yep, Strictly Ballroom got a nod, as did My Brilliant Career (#8 I think), and Chopper also got a nod at about #9 or 10. What a great movie it is.

Now Bad Boy Bubby didn't get a mention wonder why that was ?? I always thought Flo was a sexy woman as well...... NOT ! still a great movie though.

Storm Boy, Muriels Wedding also got nods, but it was a bit surprising that Jedda was not mentioned. It was a watershed movie that one.....

Smek - that Nick Cave movie has done heaps better over in England, they love him over there, and apparently it is a really good story. Probably a bit 'out there' for the good old boys at Channel Eddie (Blessed be those who speak His Name )

As they should... the man is a legend.

I actually thought the story was the weak part. Mainly because of a lack of depth. It doesn't really have that much of a story. Don't get me wrong, it's a good story, but fairly simple.
It's more the production that did it for me, the camera work and music are great and combined really well (which is what you'd expect from Nick Cave).
