Drilling out stock zx6 exhaust

Post by SenNey »

Ok i did a search on it, and came up with dribble unless i missed something :)

Hubby has 04 zx6 "wants" to drillout the stock pipe.
Has been told is easy to do, just get a whole saw.
No worries he can do it, he is getting a new pipe any way so no stress if he stuffs it.

BUT is there a safe way to do it, I know men and power tools,
Tim The Tool Man Taylor look out

And the reason for wanting to do it, why not im taking it off anyway

Cheers :D

what i've done in the past
is to cut the end off of it (near the exhaust pipe)

rip the guts out of it
and weld it back on

wtf???
he has too much time on his hands....
and method?
if he wants to get serious...try a gas axe (aka...an oxy)
the hole saw is just gunna put a biggerhole in the end

or try the bush mechanics method..... remove existing muffler
get length of steel exhaust pipe with LARGER diameter
and using persuader ( 6lb hammer) drive large
pipe up thru the middle of small muffler....
result?? LARGE unmuffled straightthrough muffler...bewdifool :D

hth

I not usually the voice of reason and sanity  but if your putting on an aftermarket exhaust, wouldn't it be wise to keep the standard in case you get pinged by the cops for having a loud aftermarket exhaust and need to put your standard one back on to remove the canary.
I mean its a differnet story if you didn't want/cant afford to put on a aftermarket exhaust, and I'd say go for it the gas axe method works really well.

I have to agree with the above. That said I have done the hole saw method on my mate's Virago, only because he couldn't justify buying an exhaust for a 250, and wanted a bit of sound.
