Yes indeedy.... I asked a mechanic about it once.... Im sure you already know, but for those people who dont know...

There are 3 elements required for a combustion engine to run, Air, Fuel and spark...

Cold air has much higher density then warm air (hence the reason that cold air goes down and hot air rises up).... If the air is more dense, it has more oxygen in it... and therefore causes better combustion... and therefore your engine runs better...

I have probably oversimplified it, but that is pretty much the story...
The world is round. It has no point.

spot on (basically)

It's something like 3 degrees = 1 kw or something like that..

Only problem is if it's to cold and you go hard I find the carb's seem to ice up or something and it goes from running hard to running like a dog for abit.

I was on the road at 4:15am and it was a bit brisk, didn't notice the power difference sitting at 100 on the freeway.

ambient temperature and elevation can affect carbs quite a lot

not only will the cold morning result in denser air with more oxygen (thus more power), but it will also cause carbs to run slightly leaner. if you notice a fairly convincing performance increase in colder weather, and a noticable drop in performance in hot stop-start riding, then theres a chance its running a bit too rich. likewise if it runs worse in cold weather and better in hot weather, its quite likely too lean. a perfectly tuned bike shouldnt perform too differently in hot or cold weather... maybe a bees dick better in the cold

of course if the bikes injected, and has a intake air temp sensor then none of this applies, and its just the extra oxygen floating your boat 8)

Didn't notice it as cold in downtown Brunswick but given that there are coppers all over the road down this way due to Comm Games was riding rather gingerly, got enough speeding tickets the last 2 years to do me for a bit.

yea...altitude plays a big part in the whole "air" side of the equation...
my bike was tuned in the highlands of nsw, and when i went to syd it use to run super well, with all that extra air!!
