Thanks to another KSRC member I'm now in possession of an original set of side fairings (be they J model shape) so next weeks plan is to get them fitted and start fixing the broken L model top fairing I have.

Anyone got a line on some cheap original fairing fixings for the ZXR? $100+ from BikeBiz Kawasaki! Maybe try something in the states? Recommendations?

Gav, be in touch this week hopefully.

Hi Jim, I got all everything like that from Partzilla, all in OEM packets, no problems. Postage seems to be an issue these days out of the states, very expensive sometimes.
Looking forward to the quiet life !

Motor has fired and ran, just got to give it a service soon.

Hopefully see the forks again this week then, all being well, get it back together enough to have a ride up and down the road by the weekend.

It'll look a bit I a mutant/Frankenstein's monster with all the varied years and colours on it but looks aren't too important at the moment!

Thats good, dont worry about the looks, you know its all about the feel.
I've got solvent fizz & runs in the clear, some is half rubbed out & some not, the front upper fairing is still grey undercoat but underneath all the plastic its better than new, better than sex & I cant stop riding her long enough to finish it.
Just painted 2 coats of 'Grip' on the front tyre as its 11 yrs old but unused & I'm pushing a bit harder now. The can says 6 to 8 coats & to let it cure for min 4-5 days, has anyone had any experience with it ?
I'll put another couple of coats on in the morning & again at night then leave it, hopefully thats enough.
New tyres soon but I just cant come at throwing a new tyre away.
Whats the benefit of the Lithium battery ? I just put a 12 Motobatt in her $109 from the local battery shop, I thought the lithiums were expensive but it might be a false economy, the 9 Motobatt that was in her was playing up, knowing nothing about batteries, before I relented & bought the new one I broke the seal & filled the old one up with acid & that made a bit of a temporary difference till it pumped it all out & then back to what it was. Do they rely on connected cells? maybe one was weak or something or the whole thing just wasn't big enough

Well; back to the drawing board!

Turns out that, although they look very similar, J/K and L/M model ZXR fairings are very different!

My L model top fairing won't bolt to the J model lowers as the cut of the panels is completely different!

So it seems I am destined to make the fibreglass fairings work but I'll live.

Bit dejected now! Not worth selling it all as I'd get nothing for it so will plod on and try to get it finished!

Picked myself up and after I got the call from
Glenn at Allfixed telling me my forks were ready I called in a favour with another member and have a set of L model fairings on loan to get me through Blue slip!

Yesterday evening I managed to get a spare hour and got to it cleaning the corrosion off the wheels and the results are pretty good. Not concourse condition but war better than before!

I've updated my list of bits that need attention so hopefully when I get some time in the garage again things will now quicker since I have a plan of attack!

My luck must be on the turn as I've picked up a set of fairings off another member which match the original colour of the bike!

Now just need some green wheels.

Turns out there was a slight bend in the headlight bracket I had so swapped it out (with another I just happened to have on the shelf) now it seems fine but we'll see come Blue slip time!

Forks still to fit, motor to service, chain to refurb and new fairings and tank to fit when they arrive then all should be good!

Then back onto ZXR#1! Have possibly found a running motor for good money so may track that one or rebuild to sell?

Collected my new fairings and tank up and gave booked some time in the garage next week to get the bike serviced and new fairings and tank fitted.

All that'll be left to do is put the ZX7R forks and polished wheels back on before I can look to get it Blue slipped!

Hopefully get some photo's on here next week.
